Down in the forest, there is a tree.
What's left of one, anyway.
The Nemeton calls another supernatural creature to its town.
The blood that drips onto it forms a circle.
"I'm sure Scott has a use for him, but I imagine he'll take your suggestions, Ellie."
"Scott is, let's say, averse to killing his enemies. If one of us does it, and we don't tell him who, he'll forgive us."
The coyote and Ellie are abruptly a hundred feet in the air.
"The long way out of town it is." She brings a bubble of air with them as they ascend to the edge of the atmosphere.
The coyote is entirely unable to resist her powers, of course.
He growls.
"I can respect your tenacity, if nothing else. Farewell." And then she launches him approximately Sun-wards.
"It's best if we divide the blame, here. Mr. Irving will be here in a few moments, and we can say that while you committed the act, I suggested the method and he provided the motivation. This will minimize conflict with the pack."
"We killed him. You were motivated to end his life, because of his crimes against the town your wife and daughter gave their lives to protect, and I suggested a trip to the sun, and Ellie here supplied the method."
"My summoner is essentially my only point of vulnerability. So far, we have no leads."
He explains what he knows about summoning circles, and the lack of any obvious summoners when she arrived.
She supplements slightly, but the doctor has essentially the full picture.
