He motions at the plate, "I already did, but," he considers, "I should probably eat more, given the past few days." He stands, stretching out the kinks from sitting in a somewhat uncomfortable position for so long. Looking himself over properly for the first time this morning, he grimaces at the grime on his coat, and the specks of blood on his right sleeve, "I should also see what the servants are doing about laundry," he adds, pulling the coat off and draping it over his arm, leaving him in his short-sleeved undershirt.

He picks up his empty plate and the papers in the other hand, and heads out of the tent so Ilek can get back to sleep.

"I am probably going to need to do the same, except I doubt you guys have mage robes. Ugh."

"Is there something to them beyond being robes?" He asks, "Because I expect we have some, if they survived the attack. Some of these people are from Sanctuary, and wear them for more formal occasions - robes are the fashion there."

"They are meant to be loose and easy to remove and put on. For people that need to change shapes a lot. I also find them more comfortable."

"I wore Academy dress, most often, while I lived in Sanctuary - leggings and tunics, under a loose overrobe - but I expect the people here are more likely to have the full formal style, including the underrobe instead of tunics. I can request some be found for you while your own clothing is cleaned, if you wish."

"If it's not too much trouble. It hardly should be anyone first priority given... everything."

He nods, but - "You realise of course that you have saved most of these peoples' lives. The offer of a spare set of clothing is the among the least many would be willing do in thanks."

"I am aware, that I have seriously contributed. I am also aware that things are in disarray, and we didn't make any formal arrangements about... payment."

He shakes his head, "It's not about payment - It's just gratitude. Though, we should figure that out at some point." He looks up at him, "Really, Zephyrinus, lending you clean clothes would not be a hardship. If I had my robes with me would do it. Unfortunately they're back at Fort Helen." He pauses, "Also, I doubt they would fit you," he admits, considering their respective heights.

"Yes, it would defeat the point of them being loose."

It's certainly a mental image, though. He shakes his head, smiling.

They arrive at the kitchen shortly. Jaim asks a servant there where the laundry is currently being collected. The man explains that they've marked out an area near the back wall, where they've set up some tubs salvaged from the buildings. At loose ends (more servants having survived than soldiers), they have been washing any salvaged clothes at a fairly quick pace all morning. Apparently they're accumulating something of a stockpile of unclaimed clothing, for obvious reasons, and the servant says all three of the guests are welcome to look through them.

"See," Jaim tells Zephyrinus as they turn to head that way, "No inconvenience at all." Though whether any of those clothes are robes in his size is another matter.

"I was just trying to not impose."

He is not that tall, it shouldn't be hard to find something.

It is not.

A servant confirms the robes in question, and the set Jaim is borrowing, are unclaimed, and then waves them over to some partitions to change so they don't have to take the extra trip back to their tent.

It's a relief to change, but Jaim at least is going to miss the running water. A hot shower would be lovely right about now.

When he finishes changing he still isn't wearing a coat - he has goosebumps all up his arms, which slowly go down as he powers the runes in the hem of the shirt.

Zephyrinus notices this once he changed out of his clothes. "Is clothing usually magical?"

Jaim looks up from where he's wrapping his left arm, and immediately looks down again, his cheekbones gone red. He's not about to say anything this time, since this is a private space, meant for changing. Jaim's the one acting strange, not Zephyrinus.

He clears his throat, "Yes, actually," he says, grabbing at the distraction, "Stitching runes is one of the simpler methods, and a few warming and durability runes here and there go a long way."

He finishes the one arm and moves to the other, "Generally speaking, we don't share our coats," he says, "The stitching on their lining is unique to each person, or at least to their family. So warming runes are especially important to ensure we don't freeze when they need washing."

Zephyrinus takes a closer look. "I see. In theory, we could do stuff like that, but I don't think it's that practical, even for rich people."

Aaaa proximity-

"Do you have a runic language, then?" He asks, staring determinedly down at his right arm. "Or is it more a case of magically changing the item itself?"

He suppresses a snort and takes a step back. "Nah, there is a class of power called infusion, which does minor changes to things. No language necessary, though some people do use to write symbols."

He starts wrapping his arm again, huffing in exasperation with himself when he notices that he'd stopped.

"How long does infusion last? These runes will work until the shirt wears out, but they had to be recharged every so often."

"Depends a lot on the effect. Cloth is a really bad material to work with, but you could have strips of something more practical, likely leather, that would need to be recharged every couple of days. It might be more practical to have jewelry with stones that release heat."

"You can enchant just about anything with ours, so long as you can attach runes to it. Carved wood, etched stone, stitched cloth. It's quite versatile. The limit is that we're still re-learning what all the runes mean."

"In the specific case of self-heating clothes is both the material being flexible and made of interlocked threads and also being hard to make something lasts but doesn't burn you. The jewelry example I gave would involve making sure the heated stone didn't touch your skin."

"It sounds like our enchantment allows more specification. The script on my shirt limits the heat rune - these ones," he tugs on the shirt to show off the script on the shoulders, running a finger over one rune in particular. "The other runes in the script define an amount of space around the shirt to heat, and the temperature it should be heated to. As long as the magic considers something to be one continuous object it can be enchanted as one." He shrugs, "You'd have to talk to a mana physicist to hear the theories about that - I only took one semester of the class. Practical knowledge was more important for me."

"Of course. If or when we swing by Sanctuary I will look into it."

He finishes buckling his bracers and risks a glance upwards. Assuming Zephyrinus is dressed, he stands, gesturing to the tent flap, "Breakfast?" He reminds him.
