Lots of people working together on something complicated is so weird to see and think about. I've barely ever been around more than one other Draak at a time before the last Grand Moot and everything that happened next.

"Yeah, I guess all the organizational stuff would take getting used to!"

The rule at Grand Moots was 'do not say anything unless the Elders call you forth or someone will bite you'. I barely even tried to understand what all the other organizations people were throwing together were doing.

"Gosh. I guess you have to start somewhere."

Lots of older Kin will find the time before all this democracy nonsense nostalgic and charming, even if most of the younger of us are coming around to the view that it's probably good to adapt and grow.

I could just make myself go to sleep until tomorrow morning, but maybe I should see some of that concept art and maybe watch a buddy cop movie before sleeping, I think those things came up before?

"Sure!"

They have concept art of the planet at various stages of terraforming, and of arcologies for people planetside to be living in to supervise and direct the process, and of a windstorm bearing down on an escaping shuttle before Sunwind and his indistinct costar can board.

Terraforming concept art is very pretty and inspiring! The arcologies are almost like city-eggs or something, it's weird but neat.

My first reaction to the last one is "why didn't he just dig a nice deep hole and estivate for however long?" ...I suppose protecting my costar is why not. Or worry about never waking up.

"I think they were also considering having your character be injured at the start but I'm not sure if they're going with that or if they tossed it."

I can feign injury. Or actually hurt myself.

"...I don't think they're gonna wanna actually have you hurt yourself."

It's no big deal if I'll have plenty of meat to heal up. I guess it sucks a bit more for all the poor pigs in a box somewhere. But alright.

"Do you want, like, the best reviewed buddy cop movie, or my favorite, or what?"

I want to know what the big deal about buddy cop movies is? Your favorite probably works if you talk about it while we watch it, hearing what you mean instead of what you say when you talk like Draak do is pretty helpful for context and stuff.

"Okay, Tinuto and Kapku it is."

Tinuto is an ex-speedskater who had a career ending injury and joined the force! Kapku's a five year old fresh out of police track! Tinuto's taking Kapku under her wing because she got into an unspecified embarrassing situation last spring ("there's a lot of fanfic about that!") and is reassigned from her usual beat. Kapku is excited to have her mentorship because a few years back Tinuto was responsible for getting a burglar active in Kapku's neighborhood caught. Together they will improve relations with the orange community in their new assigned area, and track down someone who's been performing plastic surgery without a license and endangering patients, plus unravel the complicated web off complicity that got the culprit access to space, patients, and equipment. It's a comedy, with well written banter that cracks Meksi up every couple minutes.

He doesn't understand a lot of the comedy (especially situational or referential things, slapstick and really basic conversational jokes translate fairly well). Or basically any of the organizational complexities, though he does understand individual relationships (looking up to Tinuto) and reputation (doing silly regrettable things) enough to extrapolate. And he gets that Our Heroes found everyone who did bad things eventually, more or less.

I think that helped. I'm still going to be really confused but at least I know what I'm going to be confused by, mostly. Fanfic, is that like that thing Bloom was ranting about? Mostly about sex, mostly uninteresting but occasional Treasures, often wildly wrong and doesn't care?

"I don't think it's mostly about sex. Otherwise sounds right."

Most of everything is boring.

...Ah. It was spring in Baravi while she was there, perhaps that explains it.

"Well, the not-sex fanfic is still there in spring, but maybe it makes new stuff easier to find or something."

Or maybe I misunderstood something. Maybe she was surprised there was any at all? I don't know, this is all secondhand and kind of irrelevant.

He does a tail-shrug. 

I think I'll sleep soon. Thank you for showing me that movie.

"Anytime!"

He rearranges the privacy dividers and then sleeps. Perhaps nobody believes him about the dream magic but that presumably happens too. He is ready for the script meeting, presuming it happens after sunrise! Clocks are weird.

It is after sunrise! Meksi shows him the way.

Is it in a room that's too small for him? Looking in through a door might be annoying.

They were thinking he could look through the window but they can wheel the whiteboard out to the balcony if he prefers.

Whuff.

Opening the window will make it good enough. He is going to have to get used to being around too-small people and their things. Smaller than him, anyway.
