"D'you have a capacity limit?" she asks, leading the way out of the hospital.

"Is it just linear or does anything fun happen if you save up lots?"

"To the best of my knowledge it's linear."

"Pity. ...worth spending more than twelve seconds thinking about involving psychic espers with weird powers in souping up your agape-ing ability?"

"Gosh, okay, I'll have to do some research on those then. What genre of thing would be most promising?"

"Um--increases to attention or working memory, or maybe something communicative."

"Communicative how?"

"What I'm wondering is, if I can--experience someone experiencing my virtue, as well as experiencing it myself, if that does anything. I don't have any insight either way from the brain manual."

"Huh, okay. You can obviously also do this research but I have more background with the range of espers that exist so I will probably be more efficient at it."

"Well, it'd be a good practice project to accustom myself to the google with."

"'The google'."

"I'm trying for 'amusingly out of touch,' how'm I doing?"

"Absolutely spot on."

"Ee!" Tiny delighted clap.

While they're at the hospital can she address anything urgently life-threatening, people should not die!

"TGH has a healing esper but I think she can only work four days a week, her wing might be closed today... you have plenty of mana or you'll recharge enough from doing healings?"

"I don't expect healing mundane injuries to drain me faster than I'm charging, not in a normal hospital and not, like, a battlefield medic station."

"Okay, let's go find out what the rules are for that."

The Traceless ID helps a lot with making people classify whatever's going on as "weird esper shit" even though May does mention that Lucy is not technically an esper, and they can open up the healing esper's wing and put people in it for her; it's architected in such a way to make it convenient for a single person with a magical healing ability to access patients at whatever pace is convenient for her with a partner on hand, even if May's role is "native guide" and not "partner". She's specced for injuries, not diseases? What about surgical injuries, is this a good time to get the operating theater arranged for aggressive tumor removal and so on?

"Injuries, diseases, and surgical injuries are all fine. I can also get rid of malignant tumors directly. And clean out any lingering cancerous cells."

They'll keep her pretty busy with that, then, their healing esper is mostly good at symptom management - very important when they'd normally be limited in treatment aggressiveness by the patient's medical delicacy, but it's not like she regularly empties the oncology ward.

Once Lucy's set up to have patient wheeling past her at best speed, May lets herself out to go finish up her guiding.

...Lucy accumulates mana a lot faster when she's actually working than when she's just talking to someone. Or, not necessarily working; if she were trying to puzzle out a new spell that wouldn't necessarily help.

But it is important that these people get healed and they are going to get so, so healed.

Once she has emptied the oncology ward of Toronto General Hospital and they have made a plan for her to come back another day and Lucy looks at her phone, May has sent her a text asking if she needs an escort back to May's house or if she can find her way.

I can find my way, thanks!

Unlike with the truck situation, this is one in which Lucy can Simply Fly.

May is debacklashed, Ren is home, and chicken pot pie is for dinner.
