Wow he's bad at this gently breaking it thing.

Nausicaa's super not sure how to not make it worse, though.

Rob is looking between Giles and Kaylee.

"What do you mean?" Helena asks warily.

"The man who attacked your daughter several days ago was - very likely - a vampire."

Helena moves to her daughter's side and takes her hand.  The knuckles on her opposite hand go white.  But there's a bland smile pasted over her face as she replies.  "I see."

"Mom - it's true."

"Kaylee - "

"You remember I told you he tried to bite me?  You remember I told you about his face?  And - I haven't seen other vampires but I've met a girl Nausicaa introduced me to who can turn into sand.  And Nausicaa can - Nausciaa, can you show them - "

"...Giles isn't explaining this well. You know the suspicious barbecue fork deaths? Gangs? Don't do that. Not even as weird initiations or as like a gang sign. The puncture wounds are a match for human incisors, though."

"And yeah I can show - I have superpowers that round off to improved agility and strength, it's..."

She bends over - and picks up Giles' desk.

Helena doesn't move or say anything for a moment.

She sits down.

Rob's in pretty much the same boat.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away, but - it has to be a secret.  People who know and who tell lots of people - become targets."

Helena regains her composure a bit faster.  She pulls Kaylee into a hug and smooths her hair.

When they break apart, she has her hands on her daughter's shoulders.  "I understand why you were worried about telling us," she says.  "And - well, I can't picture anything like this happening twice, I can barely picture it having happened once.  But you don't ever have to worry about protecting us, you understand?  If you ever get involved in something like this, you can and should tell us about it, and if it really needs to be secret we'll keep it secret, all right?"

Kaylee nods, looking a bit shamefaced.

Helena pulls her into another hug.

Nausicaa puts the desk back down. "Kaylee's really great!" she says. "Very sensible."

That startles a laugh out of Helena.

Kaylee smiles.

" - I should not go into the dumb things she's kept me from doing because I like pretending to be a good influence."

"I'll admit," Helena says, "that my daughter has a habit of seeking out people who might be a bad influence on her and instead being a good influence on them.  Not that I'm accusing you of anything, of course."

"Of course! - So, uh, questions?"

Helena turns to Giles.  "I'd like to see those coroner's reports now, if you don't mind."

Rob addresses Nausicaa: "So how do you and Tag fit into all this?"

"As far as I've seen I've got superpowers. Giles says I also have some kind of mystic destiny thing going on. Kaylee's my friend, Tag's also my friend and is as far as I know a normal human?"

"I am a normal human," Tag confirms.

"It's sort of - more that Tag and I fit into Nausicaa's story, than that they fit into mine," Kaylee says.  "She's the one with the superpowers, she sort of - brought me into the loop.  And - I felt weird about Mr. Giles being the only adult in the, the conspiracy, so I told him I was going to tell you guys."

Rob nods and frowns.  "What sort of mystical destiny did Mr. Giles tell you you have, exactly?"

"Some kind of - the power set passes on to another person when the last one with it dies, and I'll find myself involved in mystical plots and all? The title is 'Vampire Slayer' which I think is dumb, since apparently no one's even tried, like, an embassy."
