IT MAKES IT SEEM LIKE YOURE TRYING TO STOP THEM FROM SLEEPING

DO THEY HAVE CONTROL OF THE LIGHTS

" - why would we want to stop them from sleeping? The lights are on a day/night cycle here, same as almost everywhere, it's only bedrooms that are wired so you can control the lights individually."

I DO NOT STRONGLY EXPECT THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO STOP THEM FROM SLEEPING

HOWEVER IN THE PAST SOME HUMANS HAVE WANTED TO STOP OTHER HUMANS FROM SLEEPING

"Okay. Thank you. That's good to know." He does not say that a sleeping orc is the next best thing to a dead orc which is the only good kind.

IM GOING TO GO SEE IF I CAN HELP THEM FEEL ANY BETTER WITHOUT TALKING

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ME I AM INDESTRUCTIBLE

I CAN BE SHALLOWLY INJURED OR KNOCKED OVER BUT I WILL BE TOTALLY FINE EVEN IF THEY ARE VERY EMOTIONAL AND ATTACK ME

"All right. You're not an Elf so I bet they're not bound to attack you anyway but I will tell the guards not to immediately intervene if they do."

NOT EVEN NOT-IMMEDIATELY

IF THEY JUST KIND OF BEAT ME UP FOR A WHOLE HOUR AND I CANT CRAWL AWAY MAYBE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BUT I WANT TO MAKE THEM FEEL BETTER NOT PROVIDE A CONVENIENT FRONT FOR OVERPOLICING

He raises his eyebrows just a tiny bit. "Okay."

THANKS

And Cam abandons the blocks to stroll slowly orcward, not staring at them but keeping half an eye on them.

When they arrive at the Elf city they are dragged off the plane and into a storage unit of some kind. Some people have been fighting the Elves and been hit on the head quite a lot. Oksa hasn't been fighting the Elves because this doesn't yet seem worse than being dead. It actually does not seem particularly bad, for Elves. The storage unit is crowded and all concrete and the ventilation is humming loudly as it blasts cold air at them but no one has killed the baby yet, or even seemed inclined to express their intent to. They arrange themselves for body heat and look after the ones who were beaten while fighting with the Elves. There's a tap for water.

it's hard to think of a reason Elves would do this, but then, Elves are all a bit mad.

A while after that the door opens and they're dragged out again and that's much worse. The Elves drag them out one by one. People fight, again. They lose, again. They're dragged this time to a big room with Elf decorations and Elf music and Elf food and blankets, which would be nice, except probably they are Elf-perfumed or something. The room is unpleasant to look at; even when the Elves have departed it it feels like they are looming down from their architecture waiting to bite. No one is desperate enough to try the food. They cling to each other at the edge of the room.

They perk up considerably when the winged thing appears.

Winged thing meanders over to them, swinging by the food on his way. Pauses to take a bite of a snack from a pile of snacks. Picks up the plate, continues. Holds out the snacks.

When the snacks don't seem to do anything horrible to the winged thing a couple people tentatively take one.

He watches to be quite sure they don't do anything bad to the orcs either - his reasons to think so have nothing to do with he himself not being poisoned. He smiles in a friendly manner.

Oksa had heard that all the Maiar could read minds but maybe it wasn't all of them. Or he wasn't a Maia.

More people take snacks. The Elf music gets significantly quieter.

He gesture up at the diminishing music: smile? frown?

Well they're not a fan of Elf music but they're also not a fan of changes that could portend something bad so mixed reactions on the whole, with a good dose of 'whatever you prefer'.

Okay then. He doesn't have a lot of other angles on communicating here. He smiles at them again, then turns to go.

Some of the kids whimper.

He pauses and looks over at them.

Their parents are trying to quiet them.

Sorry kids.

He waves a wing at them and goes back out.

"All okay? We can get you a translator once you, uh, trust us on that."

I DONT HAVE VERY MUCH I CAN DO FOR THEM

A TRANSLATOR LATER WOULD BE GOOD

"You could end the war, help us rebuild stuff, then they could go home."

REALLY
