It's her first evening away from home, and even Papa's strong mental presence has left her range by now.
It's lonely.
She knows that humans aren't lesser than mutants, per se, but she's still used to a different flavor of minds thrumming against hers when she's trying to go to sleep.
She and Emily aren't the only mutants on campus, though. There aren't a lot of them, but there's one other, at least...
She reaches out to them.
Hello?
It takes a while longer for him to sit up this time.
"...I so want to stay here all night, but I probably shouldn't do that."
He actually doesn't have a good answer for that!
"Would you guys both be cool with it?"
"Don't have sex while I'm in the room but I have no objection to cuddling."
He will proceed to just stay there all night! Snuggles and contentment all around.
The twins' alarm wakes them at an appropriate hour the next morning. Edie groans and snuggles in closer for a minute before reluctantly getting out of bed to shut it off.
He rolls over in bed and makes vague noises of protest. It's way too early to be daytime.
She smiles fondly at him.
"What time's your first class?" she asks, walking back to the bed, sitting down, and putting a hand in his hair.
"Uh...nine, today, I think..."
Oh, petting. He likes petting. He makes a sleepy sound of contentment.
Pet, pet.
"Mine's at eight. You can sleep a while longer, then. Do you want me to reset the alarm?"
He sighs a little bit.
"Mm...should probably get up...gonna sleep through it otherwise..."
But getting up is so hard.
Will it help if Edie physically lifts him up and drags him out of the bed?
Yep! That will definitely help!
He still yawns pathetically, with both mouths. (Apparently the neckmouth now has two rows of teeth.)
"I wish you could just skip the first 15 minutes after you wake up."
He's not going to object to that! And he looks considerably more awake afterwards.
"You fixed it!"
"I'm good at that kind of thing," she says, nuzzling his cheek. "Did you realize the neckmouth grew a new set of teeth?"
"...I mean, I'd be fine with it, but I don't wanna start pulling teeth every night. Kind of sounds like a pain in the ass."
"It's probably weird that I'm imagining making necklaces out of the teeth."
"If by weird you mean excellent."
He'd pull a row of teeth just for that, honestly.
