It's her first evening away from home, and even Papa's strong mental presence has left her range by now.
It's lonely.
She knows that humans aren't lesser than mutants, per se, but she's still used to a different flavor of minds thrumming against hers when she's trying to go to sleep.
She and Emily aren't the only mutants on campus, though. There aren't a lot of them, but there's one other, at least...
She reaches out to them.
Hello?
"Mmkay. Anywhere in particular you were thinking of retiring to?"
"...I'm guessing it'd be way harder for you to sneak me into your dorm. And also possibly creepy."
"...that too."
He doesn't want to admit out loud that he had no particularly carnal plans. He honestly just wanted to see what her room was like.
"Yeah, well, if I were a girl I wouldn't want to see some weird dude running around in my dorm."
Pause.
"...or, uh, maybe I would, but...you know what I mean."
"Boys aren't the only ones who break the fraternization rules. You wouldn't be the first one I've seen in there."
She giggles. "Quite. My dorm's this way," she says, gesturing and taking his hand.
She transitions from hand-holding to arm hugging part of the way there.
He's not complaining about this!
"Are you afraid I'm gonna wander off?"
He feels so incredibly called out right now.
"...yeah, I guess I probably do."
There are so many snuggles.
Their dorm room is full of books and metal objects, many of which are clearly art of one form or another.
This is a good room.
"There's art in here."
He is shaken by this great discovery.
"She should keep doing it."
He leans closer to one of the sculptures to examine its surface.
It's a little abstract feminine figure with metal sweeping back from its arms like water.
He loves it.
"Do you guys ever...do this together?"
He can't quite articulate what he means.
Fortunately she can pluck it from his mind!
"Not often. Emily's more artistically inclined than I am."
