It's her first evening away from home, and even Papa's strong mental presence has left her range by now.
It's lonely.
She knows that humans aren't lesser than mutants, per se, but she's still used to a different flavor of minds thrumming against hers when she's trying to go to sleep.
She and Emily aren't the only mutants on campus, though. There aren't a lot of them, but there's one other, at least...
She reaches out to them.

He's not sure what implications "uncontrollable lasers" have for the rest of this kid's life but he doesn't think they're good.
Goggles that block the lasers when he doesn't want to be lasering things.
...ok there are lots of worse options than that. Phew.

It's very weird to think about who Emily's dad actually is. (Who her dads are, even.)

He grins and gets up, shrugging his jacket back on and grabbing his bag.

The rest of his daylight hours are startlingly uneventful and mostly pleasant.

eh, it’s been okay. classes are pretty good, exploring is great...
kinda gets boring at night, though. it’s hard to find parties without getting into the whole frat thing, and, uh, no thanks.
