"Oh right, yeah. Mine are not very unique, no."

"So, can you find three words that'd describe you uniquely?" Pause. "Which are not stuff like your name and birth place."

"Uh. I have an inclination to say… directed– um, sideways, and… self-sufficient? The 'sideways' thing is a cheat to cover a bunch of things, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't describe me uniquely, but, I'm having difficulty thinking of anything better?"

"Well let's start with that, what do you mean by that?"

He laughs a bit. "Okay, this is gonna sound ridiculous because everyone thinks it, but, like, 'unique'. There are lots of ways where I'm super generic and boring and whatever, but then I have a few things that– I can't actually think of properly right now, I swear there are some, and I think overall it makes me… unique. Then again, everyone is unique and-or thinks they're unique, so, that doesn't really help to uniquely describe me."

"It dooooesn't. I mean, everyone is unique, yeah, but it's the ways in which you're unique I'm interested in. What makes Theo not like other girls?"

"… Hm? Is that a Mean Girls reference or something?"

"It... may be? I mean it's a regular pop culture reference, but it could've originated there for all I know."

"It's just, 'not like other girls', but, okay, I don't think I've ever heard that reference." Shrug. "Yeah, like I said, I swear there are some things but right now I can't think of them so, eh."

"Most people aren't unique in that they have unique specific things about them. Richard Feynman had an IQ of one hundred and eighty or so, was somewhat misogynistic, worked in the Manhattan Project, revolutionized physics, and none of those specific things is unique to him."

"Yeah. I can't really think of any things that are even close to unique, though, so. Um. Okay, I like languages and like to know a lot about them, so that's probably one of them, since I'm not sure many people learn that much about that many different languages? After that, um, it's probably kinda unique that my mom is so high up in a big company? Not many people have that and then get mostly self-sufficient and stuff?"

"Your mom being high up in a big company isn't really about you, but being mostly self-sufficient is. How do you deal?"

"I… learned how to look after myself, mostly? There's not all that many things you need to do, you just need a routine and to stick to it and stuff, and she provides me with the money to buy things and stuff, it's not like I have to work as well." Shrug. Continue eating.

"But don't you, like, get lonely and stuff?"

"A little? But I see people at school most days, and I invite people over for games and stuff, like today, so I'm usually fine." He shrugs again. "I don't know; maybe I'd have turned out differently if it wasn't like this, but I think I'm doing fine as is."

"Yeah, you seem alright. Mom and I have lived just with each other for most of my life."

Nod. "How's the food?"

"It's pretty good! I mean, granted, it's hard to duck up pasta-and-bacon but still."

Theo raises an eyebrow. "Duck up?"

"Uh, yeah, I don't really swear."

He tilts his head. "I mean, you could just say 'mess up' instead, or something?"

"Well, yeah, but it's not the same thing."

Shrug. Then he finishes eating.

He grins and finishes eating as well.

"So, uh, I guess I should go home, then?" Since there won't be any kissing happening, apparently.

"You can if you want?" he says. "But it's only like, what, seven? So you could stay a bit longer and play some more games if you want."
