So does second.

Third is… slightly less so. Lunch has quite a lot of whispering.

There is unfortunately a lot of whispering.

Sadde will get food and then disappear somewhere at lunch.

Lunch will continue without him, in that case.

Will he be back before fourth period?

Yeah.

Then he will have English.

About halfway through class, the principal comes into the class, looking quite grave.

Why.

"I'm sorry to say that one of our pupils, in your age group, has died today. Theo Owens." She looks around at them and hesitates a little, then continues, "If any of you wishes to speak to someone about this, there will be a counselor available. Please don't hesitate to ask."

...

Wordlessly, Sadde stands up, grabs his stuff, and starts making his way out.

The principal moves to the side as he leaves, then turns to the teacher, apologizes for the interruption, and leaves to go to the next classroom.

He is not, whatever the principal might have assumed, going to the counselor. He is, in fact, going out. Back home.

He cannot be in school right now. His hair is noticeably turning white and his eyes red by the time he's a block away from school.

Nobody seems to notice him leave. Nobody comes out and stops him, at least.
