Welcome to Balacia!
Balacia is the local name for the continent you know as North America. On this planet, which is named Forest, there is a variety of fruit known as a persine (similar to an earth peach), that has been known since antiquity with natural contraceptive and STD-eliminating qualities. As a result, Balacia (the country) is a much more sexually free nation than the United States of your world.
While you are making your transition to Balacia, you will be temporarily staying in government-run housing, and provided a cultural interpreter (who will have been present at your summoning), a stipend, and access to support services to aid with the trauma and cultural baggage of your home world. In time, you are expected to acculturate to Balacia and live an independent life as an ordinary citizen; however, an acculturation period of up to three years is provided for by the program.
You may encounter fellow refugees in your government housing. Please be kind and recall that everyone here has been displaced and has their own cultural baggage from their former world.
If you should wish to return home, return transit may be arranged after a period of one week.
Brief Cultural Notes:
— Sexuality is a neutral topic in Balacia, and offers of sex or sexual services are not unusual. Please do not feel obligated to engage in any sexual activity that is proposed to you; it is always polite to turn down an offer.
— By Earth standards, the majority of people on Forest are polyamorous. It is not standard to expect sexual exclusivity in Balacia even if you are dating someone seriously.
— You may also observe sexual activity in some public places. This is entirely normal in Balacia. However, do not assume that any arbitrary public place is acceptable for sex! You may be subject to fines for any damage or mess you create. Ask your interpreter if you are in doubt.
— Many people will introduce themselves to you with a title before their names in casual contexts. The majority of these titles represent their pleat or ruche, which are difficult-to-translate concepts. When you wish to interact socially outside government housing, ask your cultural interpreter for details on how to properly introduce yourself.
— Balacian cuisine is more sour and sweet than the western cuisine you are likely familiar with from earth, and uses persines (which are an abundant and highly nutritious staple crop) heavily. Talk to your interpreter if you have issues with this cuisine; more earthlike dishes can be provided during your transition period by request.
We hope you have a pleasurable and enjoyable life here in our great nation!
