It's a very useful ability, no two ways about it.

If at any point it becomes convenient for you, or the Spirit, or whatever, to convey my gratitude to whoever it was originally made for, I would appreciate it.

I usually don't remember individual people I've helped, and I usually don't get a chance to talk to someone again after we part ways, but there's always a chance!

I'm not going to lie I'm imagining a much much smaller avatar showing up to her in the shape of a thank-you card.

...that's really cute...

It is very very cute!!!

Tiny hearts.

In my imagination the card-avatar also has a slightly babier personality than you.

I suppose a thank-you card is a little bit like a baby notebook.

Exactly!!!

She adds some miscellaneous swirls and zigzags for emotiveness.

Soon they are festooned with tiny hearts.

Awww.

She doesn't actually finish the bookstore today; it's a big store, and she has a relatively limited amount of time. She goes back to campus, has dinner in the main dining hall, looks up local restaurants and starts making a list of things she might want to have for Pocket Dimension...it occurs to her that getting a part-time job as a waitress would let her pick up a lot of food items without actually buying them...but that would be a big time commitment, and only apply to one restaurant--actually what she should do is volunteer to pick up takeout for other people.

She updates The Notebook on these plans.

I'm not entirely sure I understand about takeout, but if I'm imagining the situation right that sounds very clever!

Sometimes it's hard to guess what you will or won't understand.

I have an abstract understanding of a lot of things but there are things where I'm very uncertain about the details because they involve so many experiences I've never had.

Okay, so you know how humans need to eat?

Yes.

Well, most human food involves taking ingredients and doing things to turn them into a finished food product, and this is work. There are a lot of ways to make it so that everyone doesn't have to do all this work themselves, and one of them is prepackaged foods from grocery stores, and one is cafeterias like the college dining hall, and one of them is restaurants, where you go to eat food that a professional made there. And when you get food from a restaurant but don't eat it on-site, that's takeout. ...Or catering, which is nuancedly different.

Okay. And if you're volunteering to pick up the food for other people, then you get to pick up more different things than if you were only eating as much food as is reasonable for one person?

Plus I don't have to pay for it. Restaurant food is more expensive than grocery store food.

Oh, I see! Even cleverer.
