The Valar announce that they've done as much as they can in Singularity (they can't bring back peoples' babies in that critical period either, but they can get them earlier versions) and are setting up portals between there and Sanity as soon as they are confident they've cleaned up the plague. A bunch of Elf architects have this wild idea for a fivedimensional city where alternating intersections are interdimensional portals between various Valinors and they get eagerly to setting it up.
It's horrible. He reminds himself that humans don't take prison like Elves.
The prison staff notice his resemblance to that activist and his little cousin and want to know how he's related.
"I have a lot of cousins but they'd definitely be Elves."
"Well, they hang around a lot, maybe you'll see them."
He can have a visiting appointment with Cam.
"I'm here to inform you that as a consequence of changes to prisoner handling procedures we are going to dismiss and resummon you. If you don't answer the new summons we are prepared to come and find you. If there are several open circles write me and we will establish a procedure for ensuring that you take the right one, but there should not be any other ones. Can we expect compliance?"
He informs the local authorities that they can go ahead and dismiss him. He draws out the approved new circle.
"Thank you for your cooperation," he says to Cam. "Is there anything else I can do for you?" he says to the regulators.
Great. He'd like to bring the prisoner to his ship, then, and he looks forward to future cooperation.
His prisoner comes quietly. No point provoking anybody by being a talking demon, even if he can.
"Might've gone faster if I hadn't fought them on the gag," he says once they're on the ship, "but it's going to be a holdup if we're getting other demons for them, it's -" Sigh. "Can they tell whether I broke the binding by any means other than looking at you?"
"That's annoying. Can they tell if I dismissed you, same way?"
"Are they checking whether I am your summoner, or whether I am your summoners with this summons specifically?"
"Well that's obnoxious. Okay. If I give you permission to go anywhere and make anything you want, how inconvenienced are you going to be -"
"The not approaching within ten meters of people is obnoxious and I don't think it's phrased so you can just opt me out of it."
"And you can't kill any more Melkors for us. We could ask Sanity if they want to hold the so-people-are-justified-in-believing-we-were-right trial right now, invite some Revelation observers?"
