He writes them and asks them to let him know where a door can be found.

"Hey," he says to Ambela, "how fast do you think the Valar could do a really good war crimes trial if it's really important?"

"Define 'really good'."

"It would be useful for it to be persuasive to people in Revelation and they seem like a tough audience."

"With or without information about demonic forking?"

"I was hoping they'd have a clever idea for having a day of the hearing not committed to recorded form or something."

"Even telling people from Revelation without allowing recordings is a risk."

"Yes. Could pick ones who my alt thinks are vanishingly unlikely to themselves be demons but that doesn't fix it. And it's not just Revelation, every world where we're using summoning as immortality. - maybe ask the Valar if they can prevent forking in Hell -"

"That's the sort of thing they could do but they might have to move to Hell to sustain it."

"All of them or one, it might be a good use of one. Or they could just do it for a couple Years, until any daeva who piece things together and are tempted to try try and fail and it becomes common knowledge it doesn't work..."

"Especially combined with adding forking protections to every world we bring into the loop that might do it."

"There was some quick forensic work I needed done to evaluate how urgent it is." He has a demon for mail; he goes to find her. "Hey, can I get you to pull up the Ganymede Circling Police records of daeva currently being held as dangerous -"

"Sure..." She has to try a few times to get the whole list but here it is. Murderers, rapists, torturers, serious property damage, looks like they don't do soul thieves.

He is very deeply relieved. He writes his alt and Cam. He returns to Ambela. "So probably worth asking them to do that, then, but it's not pause-Revelation levels of urgent."

Nod. "I'll ask them."

She goes and updates the Valar on the usefulness of their pending war crime procedure, when can they have that set up?

They're stretched a little thin but they could start a trial in a month. Hell they would need to visit to see how much maintenance it would take to get forks not to work there.

Inconveniently the doors Amriac and Minor get are in populated areas and they'd be conspicuous, but when Cam is back they can step into his house.

They get back a little later. They ask the angel holding the door to hold it a little while longer for Timothy and Mingling, who are on their way.

"A month's longer than I'd like."

"Could say that because you're a witness in the trial - if you're not on trial, you should probably be on trial, I can't think of a consistent legal principle under which Cam's responsible but the people who helped him aren't -"

"The parts they helped with were harm reduction, not actually doing it."

"I agree that I should probably be on trial, though. Why's this relevant -"

"Ah, for that reason it's a conflict of interest to have you as another defendant's summoner and you handed him off to someone else."

"Might kind of undermine some of the diplomatic progress we've made. Saying I can't be his summoner because I'm a witness in the trial would be easier."

"I think you can technically be a witness and a defendant. You could also just have a separate trial you don't tell anybody about if you need not to mention being a defendant in mine."

"Or tell people about but not the prickly governments of Revelation while we're trying to convince them to improve their treatment of daeva. If the Sanity Valar are really this good maybe they will be able to do a lot of the work themselves, though. I agreed to get them some mass murderers they've been trying to arrest, in exchange for Cam. Maybe I will bring those by, notify them of another change in custody, and then Cam can be free till the trial."
