When Hyacinth comes home to her new apartment for the first time after a long day at university, it's to the sight of moving bots just finishing dropping off the last of her stuff and moving furniture into place. The full-immersion VR pod her parents gave her is safely hooked up in the pod room, her bed is in her bedroom, she has chairs and a desk and some bookshelves. Clothes are mostly still in boxes, waiting to be hung up in the closet. Holovid and a cozy chair occupy the living room. She doesn't have any food in the small kitchen yet.
Sable grins back at her as she eats.
"This is delicious. Tasty breakfast cooked with my lovely girlfriend at my side. What a great start to the day."
"Yeah, it's just... so lovely to be with you doing this together." She runs a hand through her hair. "And yeah, getting energy together for another day of hiking seems like a good idea."
She reaches across and squeezes Bis's hand while she eats, smiling warmly. "Yeah. It really is."
Hibiscus squeezes back.
For a moment she looks like she wants to say something, but then she eats a sausage instead.
Yeah, Sable has a pretty good guess at what that was, but she won't push this time. Instead she'll just smile sappily at her and keep eating.
Hibiscus finishes up her meal, and gets up to wash the dishes in the sink.
"So," she says. "Not too much farther to a real city."
Sable helps with the washing beside her.
"Yep. Just a couple days hike and then we'll be in Cordova. We can meet with Kitara Sky and buy coloring supplies and everything."
"Yeah. Hyacinth's really looking forward to that."
Hibiscus stacks up the dishes as she washes them; Sable can dry today. "It'll be nice to see more chaos-touched."
Sable's glad enough to dry, and puts the dishes away as she does.
"It will, yeah, and hopefully make some friends."
She leans over and presses a kiss to Bis's cheek.
She blushes a little. "Awwww. Cutie." She kisses Sable back on her cheek as well.
The stack of dishes doesn't take long to deal with between the two of them.
"Time to get hiking?"
Sable grins and nods. "Time to get hiking."
She makes sure all her gear is equipped, then leads the way to the door.
Hibiscus gets out her staff, and gets going. It seems like a nice enough day.
Sable collapses the house back into her inventory and gets going as well, walking beside her. The birds are chirping, the clouds drift by on the breeze, but the best thing about the day by far is the woman at her side.
The feeling is so, so mutual.
And onwards they go. Hibiscus seems content to drink in the sights and sounds. Occasionally she points out passing birds with more enthusiasm than skill. "That's a, um. A bird! That is definitely a bird. I don't know what kind of bird it is."
Sable giggles fondly. "I don't know either. Wanna see if I can find an online reference guide? Or just make up names for 'em together?"
Her hand reaches out and snags Hibi's, pulling it up to her lips, where she kisses the back of it.
"I'd rather know their real names. My family were birders and a little bit of it rubbed off on me."
She flushes a little at the hand kiss but doesn't comment on it except to crack a smile.
Sable smiles and nods, opening a search window. A few moments later, she nods. "A starling!"
"Awww. I was hoping for something better, I didn't recognize the call. Those are invasive in the real world. I wonder if they're native here or not."
"I think a lot of this is modeled after Europe, so probably?"
She minimizes the bird guide but doesn't close it all the way, so she can pull it back up quickly.
"Never seen a starling in person before. Really pretty plumage."
"Yeah. I like it too. It looks dark until you get up close and then it has all those colors. Sort of like with magpies."
"Today I learned I need to pay more attention to birds, because they're really pretty."
She squeezes Hibiscus' hand with a smile.
Sable hugs her close, wrapping her tail around her waist. A faint blush colors her cheeks. "Thank you. I try. Y'all really deserve to have more great in your life, in my opinion."
