There's a long quiet. In the distance some small children are wailing.

"If I say no?"

"I'll try to kill you. I'll probably succeed. But it won't be for good. That is not in my power at any price she would have been willing for me to pay."

"Do it."

And Iomedae gestures, again, like she's swatting a fly, and Arazni is visible, midair above the wall (and Nefreti and Alfirin are visible, midair well above that).

It is visible where her wings stutter mid-flap and where her fly spell catches her. She breathes in, sharply, and Plane Shifts.

Alfirin floats above the city, deeply shaken.

Iomedae turns to look at her, even though there's no way Iomedae could in any sense possibly need to turn to look at her. Sends - only to her - a continuation of one of the memories -

"It sure is a choice of last human indulgence," Marit says. "I feel like personally I'd -" No, he'd planned not to bring that up tonight.

"Get drunk and Sending my ex," Iomedae finishes the sentence for him, cheerfully. "I did also consider that. I - people have the right to walk away, the right to lives that aren't all about me."

A part of her - a large part - wants to flee. After this last year - this last century - it feels like there's nothing in the world she wants less than to have a conversation with the goddess Iomedae. But she knows herself well enough, now, to know that she'll regret it if she walks away. She'll probably regret it if she doesn't, but at least this way she'll know what she's regretting. She descends to the ground. "What."

"The person you'd be if you were trying to live up to your own values is someone I have no quarrels with."

The implied threat is obvious. She doesn't know why she expected anything else. "Do your worst," she manages to croak out, and teleports away.

"Tell the girls that I am so sorry," Iomedae says to the nearest bystander, and then She leaves.

Iomedae immediately collapses to the ground screaming in agony.

Someone runs to get help. Others check her for injuries.

There is nothing at all wrong with her except for a god having used her mind and body for a very large miracle that took several minutes, which is to say she's not going to stop screaming in agony for a long while.

Help is delayed due to the general chaos in the city, but she's still screaming when it arrives. A lay on hands doesn't do anything. The bystanders are asked not to go far, someone will be along soon to get all of their accounts. And can they not talk about what happened amongst themselves in the meantime?

Iomedae will be taken to the keep. There's not much anyone can do for her, but at least she'll be protected from anything else that might happen and out of the way of the people trying to restore order.

Lt. Jeres gets a sending informing him that Freedom was possessed by Iomedae and is in Vigil now, and that he should not tell this to the Osirians but should tell them the situation is under control and calm any panic happening on that end. He goes and does that. When he's done all that he goes and knocks on Alfirin's door.

Alfirin curses quietly to herself, closes and pushes aside her spellbook where she's been trying unsuccessfully to hang invisibility for the last half hour, at least - "What."

Jeres enters. "They found Freedom. She's okay - well, she's injured, but she's going to be okay. I thought you'd want to know."

"Where is she?"

"Not here. You can go see her tomorrow, probably, when there's a teleporter available."

"Fuck you. You're under orders to let me leave. You utterly failed to keep her safe and I don't see any reason to expect staying here will keep me safe. Where is she?"

"I am not under any orders to tell you that."

"Fine. I'm leaving anyway. You'll have to escort me out of the Dome since the locals can't stand the sight of an unattended woman. Now go away so I can pack. I'll need fifteen minutes."

"I think this is a mistake. Just wait until tomorrow -"

"Go away, I said."
