"If an Elf does a thing that they think will result in their being married, then they are married. Otherwise not. If they had all been told at the beginning 'you only become married if you first exchange vows in public' then that's how their marriage would work but instead they were told 'sex is marriage' and so that's how it works. Until they meet the multiverse. Lúthien and Gem got  married just by knowing that gay marriage was a thing.  - I mean, by having sex while knowing that, the having sex might actually be obligatory."

"I dunno I can't figure Macalaurë out quite. Michael's less confusing."

"Elves," Mitros says sympathetically, and leads them concert-hall wards.

And Michael alts! Two of them! Makarial looks just like Michael and Laurië is a girl and an Elf and makes exciting squeaking noises at the children.

Catherine squeaks right back. Joanna says "Aah two, two," and looks confusedly between her papa and Makarial.

"I'm not your dad, sorry, sorry, I'm his alt."

"Mama's alt has different hair," says Catherine. "My alt is like me but ugly. Fix your hair. Or be ugly!"

"Two," says Joanna, "aaah."

"If I grow it out my wife gets distracted. Maybe your dad should grow his out."

"No he was here first," says Catherine.

"I sing differently than him, is that different enough?"

"No," says Catherine.

Giggle. "The indestructibility has to be at midnight, did someone explain -"

"Yeah, it was mentioned. Sounds like an inconvenient system."

"Has its limits."

"We tried all the obvious approaches to cheating. Very annoying how reluctant it is to be cheated. If we were closer to Edda I'd beg Loki to spin us like a top without injuring anybody, see if that did it, but we're not neighbors."

"And we don't dare try moving the planet lest that wreck everything. So, midnight. Meanwhile: concert."

"I'm sure the concert will be great."

It is amazing! Rebecca being happy remains the best thing in the world. 

She likes music and is only a little worried about Michael feeling inadequate or something.
