Forks does not really seem like the place for... An escaped exotic pet of some kind? Whatever it is, it's fluffy and cute seems remarkably clean, with long purple (dyed?) tail and ears. Looks sort of rabbity. It's been hanging out around town for a couple of days, near the school for the most part. It never seems to get wet, either.
It's very cute, with energetic, puppy-like movements and big round eyes. It's watching everyone at the school most afternoons, almost as if looking for someone.
Bella asks a couple people if they know what it is, the first time she sees it - her top guess is "dyed dog of some breed that usually has its ears docked" but she's really not sure.
...Huh. They're not sure. It kinda looks like an oversized rabbit? Maybe some kind of albino raccoon?
(The thing wanders away when the scrutiny becomes obvious, hopping along the ground and vanishing from sight under a car.)
That's not a rabbit tail at all...
It probably doesn't matter, she resumes her school day as normal.
There it is again when school's out! Sitting on the roof of her truck, looking directly at her, and not being remarked upon beyond a brief glance by anyone else.
Wow, she hopes it's not rabid. She walks toward the truck slowly, hoping it'll startle away.
"Did you just shake your head at me?" she asks incredulously.
It pads a bit closer and then- Speaks, in a whisper-tone, mouth moving but somehow producing more complicated sounds than it should, and says, "I've been looking for you for a while, chuu! I have a lot to explain but it might be easier to do it somewhere else. I can't talk to you with telepathy because of your latent specialty though. And I'd rather not draw too much attention. May I follow you home?"
"How aren't you drawing attention? People can see you, I checked."
"Pu... Magic is real, but most people aren't aware of it. There's an ancient spell laid across all worlds that helps people not notice for the most part. It's for the best, lots of bad things could happen if it weren't for the veil!"
"Like what, you getting the attention of a dogcatcher?"
"I'm a Puchuu!"
It drops to the pavement rather than continue sitting on top of the car.
"You should maybe pretend to be on your cell phone or something. It's not nice to stretch the veil too far in front of people. There's a lot of magical things, but monsters are a category based on results - not origins. We call evil things that want to hurt people and disrupt society monsters! Abyssals are the worst, they feed on fear and make people afraid- Which makes them more powerful and more numerous. If everyone found out about Abyssals, I think most humans would die."
"The Abyssals aren't bright enough to protect their food supply?" Bella asks, pulling out her phone and pretending to send a text.
"Some are, but not a lot! Mostly they skulk around and get up to trouble without much detailed planning, but the smart ones can be really awful. The reason I'm telling you all this is because a relative of yours by the name of Evelyn had a very useful magic power, one that could help out a lot of people if it's handy just in case. You have a psychic magic affinity, which means the potential for a great defense against mental effects, much greater than the passive one you have already, and probably you'll be able to put people to sleep without hurting them, and track invisible monsters by their minds and things like that. I don't know where she went, but my little group of Puchuu stopped hearing from her eight years ago. We looked into her descendants off and on hoping to find someone with the same power, and I found you!"
"I think so? I found you with sympathetic tracing through the Overworld. Kinda like knockoff prophecy?"
"How would I go about - activating my magic potential, or whatever -" At this point she does go around to the driver's side of her truck and open the door. Critter can come in if it wants or ride in the flatbed.
It hophophops into the passenger seat.
"I can do it for you but it's kind of permanent! I even have a budget of magic coins to improve the process with if you'll agree to help out sometimes. Magic coins work best right when something is being made or forged, so it's a better investment than giving them to someone else. But you definitely want to talk through everything with me first so you can plan it all out."
