On the boat, Maurice is begging to be allowed to go swimming with the mer-children. 

Perhaps she can nudge one of his moms into being more receptive to the idea.

Letting their son swim in the middle of the ocean with strange sea children is not likely.

She sees that she is unlikely to nudge them further without upsetting Maurice and decides to leave it.

Also, the weather is starting to turn bad.
