"It roughly doubles the odds of a positive outcome within the space of random chance. So, if you have to choose between three doors and behind one door is a prize, the rune won't help you with that, because which thing is behind which door is already a fact that exists in reality, but if you're rolling a die and you get a prize if you roll a six, your odds of rolling a six are approximately one in three instead of one in six."

"That's awesome but what are the degrees of freedom on the tattoo?"

"--Oh on the tattoo. It has to have the general rune shape but it can be any size or color you want, "font" variations are limited but extant, if you want a design where there are rose vines climbing around the rune that'd have to be done carefully to avoid interference but it could happen."

"What's it look like?"

Lucasta shows her another illusion. It's a set of interconnecting lines, that form a mostly circular-ish shape altogether. 

"Oh, I like that actually. - ballpark how many tats do people end up with if they're doing this?"

"Depends wildly on the person, but, uh, usually at least several if any?"

"Yeah but more like five or more like twenty, I want to consider the likely ultimate number when deciding placement."

"...Sort of bimodal but I expect you to end up more on the twenty side."

"Okay, then I think I want 'em in a line down my spine, this one can be at the top, like hereabouts," she taps herself, "low enough it won't poke out of a normal t-shirt."

"Cool, I can do that. --Wilbur is going all-in on runes and is taking a tattooing kit relic, that seems relevant." 

"I have the kit too, don't I? But I will bear him in mind when considering potential wielders who can reach my back."

"Taking it makes sense, it's cheap. Most of his not-trivially-expensive purchases were about fibercrafts, though, I thought that loom was just going to gather dust in a storeroom forever."

"Have you a literal storeroom of the things? How oddly charming. Yes, he likes his affinity even more than most people."

"Yes, relics that haven't bonded to anyone yet have to exist in a real location, more or less. When I'm gifted something by a worshipper or I receive the results of a commission I have to put it somewhere until I can hand it out."

"Makes sense. I should bring you Aadhya, she'd be aces at making interestingly unique and useful objects to put in your stash."

"That sounds phenomenal. I look forward to it; Wilbur shows promise in the same direction...it's interesting, his doppelganger isn't nearly as interested in artificing."

"Oh, I suppose you would have one, wouldn't you. What's yours do?"

"He's a professor of magical theory at Hawthorne! I expect that your Wilbur just--channeled all his nerd tendencies into his affinity, for survival...I expect him to branch out, some, now that that's no longer such a pressing priority, but not to lose his original passion."

"Aww."

"I love my brother a lot. I'm glad your version didn't die." 

"Did yours?"

"--Oh--no--but I didn't see him or Mother at all while I was, you know, Outsider-y."

"Oh, I see. That must have sucked."

"It wasn't good, but it was better than the alternative would have been. A lot more people didn't get cured in the Celestial Codex than did...I think that's probably a resource limitation, but I'm still not happy about it."
