Even though he knows it's pretend it makes a sick feeling grow in his gut.

He keeps an eye on Bun, sees how he's taking it.

It's not ideal, but if there are a bunch of other customers and also clothes take a long time because they don't have machines, it makes sense? "We'll see you again, then."

...what the fuck. Good people are insane. Why is he just taking this. Did they break Bun somehow.   

Tanidio pays the man and they leave. 

"Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if that was a little bit of revenge for that conversation."

Oh, good, so Bun's not completely lacking in all normal prideful instincts, he can at least generate this as an explanation for the behavior of other people.

"You seem remarkably unoffended by the fact that your clothes are going to take a couple extra weeks because we were having inappropriate conversations in public."

"--I'm also assuming the other customers aren't fake?" And presumably the tailor's phrasing sounds better in a Chelish context.

"...he was definitely just insulting us. Asshole."

Hmmph. "Well, as long as the clothes don't wind up with rude words in Taldane embroidered on them."

"If he does that I'm not paying him."

"And then I still only have one set of clothes."

"I can beg Chrisor for more money so we can go to a nicer tailor."

It feels like pulling teeth to say it. Which is probably a good thing for his believability, but still.

"But actually they'll just be fine and late."

He runs out of prepared Detect Thoughts and does his best to keep Bun distracted on the way home.

Would he like a capsule description of the afterlives.

That sounds like very useful information.

Elysium is an infinite plane of wilderness which people just sort of wander around, they're not allowed to build cities or anything. Nirvana, in addition to turning you into animals, erases all your memories. Heaven drafts everyone there into the eternal fight against Evil. Axis is pretty nice, it's a city, it's probably the one closest to mortal life. The Maelstrom involves living in the primal force of pure Creation which is not actually a very good place for humans to live. Abaddon just kills you. The Abyss is mostly pretty unpleasant but some of the demon realms are pretty nice. 

Hell makes you perfect and then you can work on saving other people.

Nirvana: So confusingly named it's almost the opposite of what it should be.

"Hell and Axis do seem the most... Human friendly."

"Most of the afterlives are designed for outsiders, not mortals. Asmodeus cares about everyone."

"It's good someone's looking out for us mortals."

And so with one thing and another they return home. 

"Hello! What are the major ethical philosophies of your home plane?" says a short blue-haired person.
