Fortunately, the tailor seems to know how this works, and after a brief conversation with Tanidio starts to measure Bun.

"It's an open question whether I'll be murdered before I've finished training them. -- at least then I could train them beyond the grave. 'Whoever didn't do it, work out how your teacher died. Extra credit for identifying the culprit.'"

"Chrisor would like that educational strategy."

"Well, I'm glad my boss will approve of my manner of death."

"I don't know if they'll hate me for having free time or love me for occasionally distracting you."

"Depends on how self interested they are."

"Well, we do try to encourage self-interest. For example, I've been trying to encourage you to act in your self-interest all day."

Ah, the nuclear levels of flirtation. And let's hope the tailor is too distracted to notice. "Surely there's a bit of self interest on your part too."

"I specialize in Enchantment, if it was just self-interest in my part I'd use Charm Person."

"And here I thought you were into the thrill of the chase."

"Usually other people chase me."

"It's personally unfortunate that other people have good taste too."

"You'll just have to claim me."

This tailor is following his orders to be silent and also is SO not being paid enough to listen to this.

Has it occurred to Tanidio that there's an inherent paradox in being forward and unambiguous about how much you want someone to rape you.

Technically, a bunch of those sentences are soft nos said with a particularly horny facial expression. 

Tanidio wants to keep acquiring an enormous amount of arcane power, but not for the love of magic or knowledge or even very big explosions! He just wants it so that he can win a pointles status game with his father and make Chrisor proud of him. Nethys doesn't think it has ever even occurred to Tanidio to think about whether he likes doing magic. Nethys thinks that people should come to the correct conclusion about whether they like magic (yes), but it should occur to them to do so!

Nethys hates Cheliax.

That's good! Self-delusion about whether people you have power over will stop you from doing what you want is an important step towards not caring at all.
