"She was about my age, talked about gathering her saber crystal from Ilum..." Elesse briefly describes the conversation.

"And she felt- different, somehow."

"...That's not a normal vision."

"No. It wasn't."

"Did she seem - like she was safe?"

"At the- present, more or less. But... she said she had a hard time growing up. She was raised by someone named Shmi."

" - Shmi?" She makes a face. " - But she wouldn't hurt my daughter, ever."

"I think there were extenuating circumstances there? But she didn't want to focus on that."

"...A lot would've had to go wrong for Shmi to be - any kind of sole caregiver."

Nod.

"But I think we're pretty far away from that, because she said there was another me, but they hadn't met until Anakin was nine."

"...Would you hide it from her, if you got separated and then only met her again when she was nine?"

"I don't think I would."

"A vision of what might have been, then..."

"The other Anakin was training as a Jedi."

"...I don't want that for her."

"She said... that learning the light side was better for her state of mind than using the dark."

She's quiet for a long, solemn moment. 

"The Dark Side requires you to be - tough. Halfway to broken, then built back up, over and over."

"I haven't been able to do it for - my apprentice. I had to just... Subcontract that."

"Shmi would be able to do it, though. Even if she doesn't use the Dark Side herself."

"That doesn't sound good for you."

"It makes you strong. So you can shape the galaxy, rather than be shaped or destroyed by it."

"People aren't- made of steel. You can't melt them down, reforge them, and expect them to be the same. They wouldn't- survive that process."

"I think that was meant to be the point."

"Yeah. And that's bad."

"I wouldn't be strong enough to do it to my daughter. Not even strong enough to make someone else do it."

"You don't have to."

"I can't destroy every threat before it gets to her. She - needs to be able to defend herself."

"The dark side isn't her only option."
