"Yeah. I - have really ridiculous powers. There's limitations and most of the really cool stuff trades off against healing people, but - I went to space Wednesday night, just for a moment."

She sighs dreamily, and points to a colored pencil drawing on the wall of the earth from orbit. "Artist's rendition."

"That's beautiful. You didn't want to take a photo because - do phones not work in space or do you not want Big Data to notice you're in space -"

"Thank you! I do keep my phone off when I'm flying, but... mostly I wanted to focus on what I was seeing? If I end up wanting to take a picture, I can always go back."

(Aria Math finishes playing, and the next song on her playlist pops.)

He nods. "How high up do you have to get, for that, is that as far as the moon is?"

She shakes her head. "No, not nearly that far! That was... about five thousand miles up." She pauses, thoughtfully.

"I could go to the moon, but - it's much further away -" she can just check! "...48 times further away. The Earth is only the size of a marble, from that distance."

"I guess that stands to reason, since the moon looks pretty small from here."

Happy nodding. "Yeah! Exactly."

"How does stuff trade off against healing people?"

"Um. I have... a rechargeable battery, basically, and everything I can do use a little bit of charge? Stuff like using my phone or taking notes and checking them takes so little power it might as well be free, and that's true for moving stuff around, too, if it's light or not for very long. But flying, healing, moving big and heavy things? That's... more expensive."

"...how do you recharge? Or are you going to run out?"

Xeya shakes her head. "I generate a bit of charge on my own! And from people around me, when they're feeling hopeful." (It's nice to be able to talk to someone about this... She updates her notes to indicate that he knows how her powers work, though not about the ring.)

"Is that what the sports thing is about?"

<Search: Skipnotes for Sports> (Her eyes glow blue for a second before she grins.)

"Right, we did talk about that! Yeah, sorry for being evasive back then. That's why sports with big crowds but not theaters. People aren't generally feeling a lot of hope at a theater."

"...do your eyes always glow when you do that? Am I going to need to figure out how to get you alone before you'll be able to look me up?"

"I can look away or close my eyes; I've been getting a lot of practice with yawning and stretching to cover a lookup. But also - most people don't notice, if they're not paying close attention. And I don't think it happens when, like, a timer goes off or something, though - watch my eyes?"

<can I get a five second timer?>

Skip watches attentively.

(Her eyes do not flash.) "Okay, it just went off. Did you see anything?"

"Nope. ...What do you think'd happen if people knew about you?"

She shrugs. "I don't know for sure, but... it just seems like it could be bad? I don't want people to like... run experiments on me, or hold me captive to heal important people and their friends."

"I sometimes worry about this for myself but it never seemed very likely. Considering. I'm not useful, either..."

"Yeah, I think the healing in particular makes it risky."

She sighs, thoughtfully. "I wonder what other kinds of people there are out there. It probably isn't just the two of us, right?"

"That... is not how it would be in a comic book, but are we a comic book?"

"In a comic book there would probably be superpowered villains for us to fight! And, like, lots of problems that we have to solve with violence. I haven't had any of those yet." Which is great, honestly.

"Me either."
