And then, one by one, they're not hurt anymore.

She gets back home pretty late and with a big smile on her face.

Some guy is retrieving the couch blanket from where it appears to have been used as an impromptu tablecloth. "Hi, Xeya!"

<This is Skip. He has a mysterious condition that means you can only remember him through notes. He knows about your powers. Here are your notes on him.>

Huh ok her notes say to open with...

"Hi Elmo!" (she's still reading.)

He sporfles. "Oh, I gotta watch what I tell you, don't I."

She laughs. "I was just following instructions! Instructions I don't even remember writing, actually, so we must conclude that this is afternoon-Xeya's fault and I am blameless."

"I gotta watch what I tell you in the afternoon in particular. Doesn't generalize at all." Nod. He swooshes the blanket over the couch.

"Yeah. Evening Xeya is a saint!" She smiles. "Complete with miracle healing."

"Are they like, transferring people from other hospitals out this way yet? I guess I don't know if they'd ever acknowledge what was going on enough, but."

"I have no idea, honestly? I haven't really done any sleuthing! It takes a while to get there by bus and I haven't thought of a good way to do it anonymously that isn't, like, time consuming and kinda risky." (She could sit on the roof and eavesdrop, but someone might notice the glowing, and she has no idea when or where people talk about it...)

"Man, if I could drive I'd offer you rides but my parents always said that's the kind of thing my parents should teach me to do."

Awwww. He's really sweet.

"I never learned either. I don't mind taking the bus, aaaand I maybe didn't want to get roped into driving the twins around."

"You've got twin siblings?"

"Yeah, Sam and Lex. They turned seven this summer and I love them both very much but they are... easier to love at a distance?"

"That's a big age gap, what's that like?"

"It was great when they were little - I didn't mind taking a turn holding one of them or making silly faces and funny noises at them to cheer them up. I'm great at silly faces and funny noises. But it was kind of a lot, when they were three and I was fifteen? I spent a few months dating a guy who I wasn't really into, in retrospect, but he lived a few blocks away and he wasn't too pushy and it was somewhere to be that was quiet." She sighs. Poor Brian. Hopefully he's doing well these days.

"Oof. I like a crowded house but that's, you know, reasons, I don't know what it'd be like if I were normal."

"I like a crowded house when it's friends who I can, like, talk to? I love living here. But the twins at were definitely not that for most of high school, though it was getting better the last few years."

She taps her big headphones. "These definitely helped."

"They can cancel not only vacuum cleaners but also 'hey hey hey hey play with me'?"
