He nods. "Do you expect that him joining the Hellknights would improve the Crusade's ability to reach its strategic objectives, or otherwise make it easier to contain the Worldwound?"

He's willing to recommend to his superiors that they apply 'more enthusiastic pressure,' if so, but not if Knight-Commander Artigas is (for example) motivated by ill-placed sentimental concern for a cousin that won't otherwise impair his ability to act.

"Yes. I would have no hesitation about leaving him right where he is otherwise. Leaving him there might, to be clear, work out acceptably, but there are some tail risks."

"Understood. I will write to my superiors about arranging for an appropriate invitation."

"Thank you. - it might be time sensitive."

Regill can discuss various ways to potentially hasten the process if the Crusade has access to the relevant resources, ranging from 'dispatch riders to bring letters via Mount' to 'brief a Signifier and provide them with a Sending item.'

Desiderata here include that Cheliax does not notice that it's important until after they're committed, so it has to camouflage reasonably well, but getting a letter most of the way by Mount and then tucking it in among normal correspondence should probably do.

Does that extend to not mentioning in his letter that the Knight-Commander expects this to improve the Crusade's likelihood of achieving its objectives? He expects his superiors would be much more reluctant to apply more-than-typical pressure without a particular reason.

(It's fortunate that clerics of Iomedae aren't permitted to lie; he would otherwise be much more concerned about the fact that the Knight-Commander specifically doesn't want Cheliax to be aware that this is important.)

"I would prefer not to be mentioned at all if it can be avoided."

"My superiors will expect some sort of justification for my recommendation; is there an alternative that would be acceptable given your constraints?"

"Some... three or four years ago... Paralictor Esquirol, if I don't misremember the name, remarked that he would make a good Hellknight. I realize that is a very thin justification."

"Absent insight into the underlying reasoning, I will defer to your judgment as to the tradeoff between speed, probability of success, and secrecy."

"Esquirol did not give detailed reasoning. I'd be guessing. - I am willing to explain the matter to you if you can keep it confidential."

He considers that for a few moments. "If the situation is as you have represented it, I won't willingly disclose it without your permission unless I learn of the information through some non-confidential means."

"My party members and a couple of other Crusade staff know and if they derive that you are within the group that has been told and speak of it, this should not count as non-confidential means."

"That is acceptable."

"I appear to be from some sort of alternate timeline. In mine, Asmodeus dropped all His clerics, including me, and Iomedae picked me up. Chosen Artigas is my counterpart here. I expect moving him to worsen #11 on several axes and while I can find a use for him, I don't need him; but it would be extremely doable, if he were ordered to do so, for him to use this to impersonate or otherwise inconvenience me. I don't think he would do it of his own accord, so I just need to know what orders he's getting."

A strand of white hair turns lilac. His expression does not otherwise change.

"Do you have reason to expect his superiors to order him to do so? Containing the Worldwound is a common interest of Asmodeus and Iomedae."

"I was never good at playing politics. I don't know what they'd do and I do know that whatever they tell him, he'll obey. I expect they'd remain within the letter of the treaty, but the treaty does not place a burden of demonstrating one's distinction from one's identical twin."

He considers this. "With your permission, I would be willing to inform my superiors that I have strong reason to believe your counterpart would be an asset to the Order of the Godclaw without elaborating on the details."

"That seems appropriate. Though if you want more details of his service record to back that, I expect they are almost all the same and I can provide them."

"That would be appreciated."

So Blai can recite a couple decades' worth of resume.

Regill listens diligently.

"Is this timeline potentially at risk of a containment breach via sudden loss of nearly every cleric on the northern border?" he asks eventually.

"I do not know exactly what precipitated it but my best guess is that this is not imminent."

He nods. "Is there any other strategic information from your timeline that would be useful to communicate more widely, such as the date and location of major demonic attacks or the identity of demonic spies?"
