Got it.

Even after having his injuries healed, the man is clearly not in great condition. His clothing is wet and torn to shreds, and there's a chunk of hair that's been torn out of his head. His armor and weapon are entirely missing.

"Yaker Ankelle, Hellknight of the Order of the Godclaw, currently under the command of Paralictor Regill Derenge, reporting, sir. Our squad was conducting operations just within the Worldwound in response to a demonic attack when we were ambushed by hostile forces that far outnumber us, primarily gargoyles. The remainder of our squad is currently besieged at the Reliable Redoubt outpost, but they cannot hold indefinitely. I have come to request your assistance."

Huh, apparently he can talk after all. Still seems pretty suspicious, though.

"When was this? What are the forces at the outpost besides your squad?"

"Their initial attack was shortly before dawn, which prompted the retreat into Reliable Redoubt. I departed to seek your aid roughly six hours ago. We are accompanied by a detachment from the Order of the Sunrise Sword." He can provide more detailed troop numbers for both the Hellknights and the Sunrise Sword members.

That all checks out. "How many gargoyles? What are they like in a fight, are they demonic or just gargoyles, etcetera?"

He can provide the approximate size of the gargoyles' force, which numbered at least in the several dozens when he left. "Several of them appeared to possess unusual capabilities, including some that were demonic, some that appeared to be clerics or otherwise have similar magic, and some that were noticeably more deadly than ordinary gargoyles for no specific discernable reason. Their initial attack appeared to be focused on taking captives rather than killing as many of us as possible."

"As of the time you left was there any intel on what they wanted with the captives?"

"There was not."

"Anything else I need to know - ways my maps might be out of date, prevailing weather, are the Hellknights and the Sunrise Sword likely to have trapped the approach or mistake us for enemies -" He can go on like that for quite awhile and when he has everything he needs he's gonna go figure out how much of the army he wants to grab for a large detachment of souped-up gargoyles.

Yaker can provide answers to all of those questions! (The maps are as accurate as can be hoped for within the Worldwound, which is to say that they are absolutely missing some obnoxious terrain features. The weather was windy but not rainy when Yaker left. Yaker expects his presence to be reassuring on the 'not more enemies' front, although if the Knight-Commander happens to have any Sarenrites who have the obscure Message variant that only Sarenrae gives out prepared it might help to confirm that their group isn't Dominated.)

Gargoyles can fly, and their stone-like skin is nearly impervious to non-magical attacks, even with cold iron weapons; he'll likely want to grab especially powerful archers important enough to be issued magic weaponry and supplement them with paladins who know how to shoot, melee warriors with magic weapons, and support casters.

"Knight-Commander, are you sure this is wise? Even in the best case scenario this could delay our march on Drezen by multiple days."

 "And they're Hellknights."

"I am not planning to bring the entire army; I hope to arrange to be able to catch up to the main force with a smaller more mobile detachment that is nonetheless capable of dealing with the gargoyles.

And to the second guy: "You might choose to retract that foolish statement, but if you don't know why you would do that, I can explain."

 "—sir?"

"Can you read?"

 "Yes sir."

"For example, have you read the Worldwound treaty?"

"I don't think the treaty requires us to render aid here — I know it sometimes would, I just don't think this is one of those times."

"We could ask Fiducia Rathimus? Isn't that what he's here for?"

"They wouldn't help us if the situations were reversed. ...But we're not Evil, we should be better than they are."

Actually Yaker is detectably Lawful Neutral but that would probably be unhelpful to point out.

"It might be that we are not obliged in this instance but 'they're Hellknights' doesn't enter into it and still wouldn't if they didn't have a contingent of Sarenrites on hand. It would not affect the matter if we were fielding a comparable request from the rank and file Chelish army who aren't even Hellknights, and had to hear their strategic report over the screams of whoever most recently ran afoul of their commander. They're signatories. They are our allies in a shared strategic goal that requires interdependent cooperation with even people unimaginably odious to you because they're opposed to the demons and if they can hold up their end of the bargain I refuse to expect less from my people. If you are anywhere near the Worldwound your every action must support the wall we build around it with Law and commitment and the knowledge that the Wardstones are a fraction of why the wounded world still has anyone left in it. The rest of it is people like you and the forces of Hell mutually holding their noses and getting to work. If you would rather the world be destroyed please choose a more convenient moment than this to declare your alliance with Rovagug."

 Wow he's scary. "Yessir."

Great. Let's figure out who's going to go take down the gargoyles and how they'll regroup afterwards.

He probably wants to grab these subunits from these units and combine them, even considering the fact that they won't be used to it, rather than taking their units wholesale and ending up with some people trying to plink away at the gargoyles with cold iron arrows. If he's planning to march them through the night he might want to skew his troop composition more towards paladins who can remove fatigue with their Lay on Hands, which would imply this composition instead. Is he bringing along any of his party members, either as support casters or as people who could probably scratch the gargoyles?

Yes, he's bringing his party, all of them if they want to come. Drezen is useful strategically but what he knows ultimately worked for closing the Wound was an adventuring party.

Not all of them are feeling incredibly enthusiastic about the whole "Hellknights" thing, but none of them are feeling so unenthusiastic as to sit this one out.
