Huh? They're obviously partsies. They can fly. That counts as powers.

"It doesn't seem like that when you were born that way."

The other children are mostly of the opinion that it counts anyway.

"Flying is funner than fun, though."

"I bet! It must be like a rollercoaster you can aim yourself!"

"You've been on a roller coaster?

"Just once. At the state fair. It shook around a lot, but it was fun."

"Maybe you can try one yourself sometime and compare."

"Cool. When's the state fair?"

"I don't know. Summer probably? There are better rollercoasters. Miss Mecha says fairground coasters are cheap and unsafe..."

"I'd take you guys flying if I could."

"I was in a plane once," comments one of the relatively few pale-skinned kids, "It's not as good as a roller coaster."

"How long has Miss Mecha been taking care of you guys?"

Answers vary: Two weeks to three years. One teen-looking boy sheepishly murmurs that he'll probably have to leave soon, but hopes they'll let her stay and work at the theater or something.

"She's... She cares about us. She's kinda scary sometimes. Not always nice..."

"Sandy deserved to get kicked out. She was stealing stuff."

"But she's fair I guess, yeah."

"Nicer than the people who're supposed to take care of kids without parents?"

Their opinions are really really divided on the government's foster system. They don't really seem to understand it either.

"Sorry, sorry, shouldn't have asked."

No, now he must listen to their opinions. Don't trust them! No, they're good if you actually get into the system right. Some of the parents are good but the caretakers doesn't care. Most of the parents will treat you like a prize dog actually!

"We've never really known our parents."

Real parents are just like foster parents but worse. The foster system kicks out really really bad parents but nobody is doing anything to help pick your birth mom.

"Ours sent us letters."

Good for them!

They were nice letters, hopefully.

...But you never know what she would be like in person, mutters one small boy.
