Kanimir flinches, then raises a hand to his forehead. "Ow. Thanks."

Annika waits outside the Dean's office, but her new pet never shows up. That's really annoying. She decides to go not be in a predictable location.

"So what happened exactly?"

"That woman in the ragged silks blew something in my face outside the library."

"I guess I kinda thought the rabid infighting would wait until we'd had a couple classes to start, but apparently nope. We should...maybe do something about that."

"I don't disagree, but do you have any ideas?"

"Well, for starters, next time I want to go grab something and you want to go straight to the library, we should probably stick to the buddy system instead. Uhhh...I think I overheard that one group in the cafeteria complaining about mind control, it would be useful to have more allies..."

"I'm putting a lie-detecting spell or something together before we try approaching anyone. Talk is cheap, and anyway neither of us were paying them much attention."

"Excellent point. Back to the library, then, and this time we don't split up."

Erek also has the idea of heading to the library and has not implemented the buddy system; he is just walking by himself through the halls, taking note of the layout and signage.

A man in simple black robes steps out of a side corridor. "Imperio."

- okay.

He orders the other boy to follow him back to his room.

"I've brought another servant for you, Lady Clara," he says, bowing. (Do whatever Lady Clara orders.)

"Excellent," the pale woman with electric-blue eyes says. "I've never felt a mind quite like this before...tell me your name."

"My current legal name is Erek King."

She raises an eyebrow. "And what is your real name?"

"My original name was Chee Nemsen."

"Chee Nemsen, what are your abilities?"

"I am an android. I am much faster, stronger, and more durable than a human, though I project a hologram of one around myself. I remember everything I experience and can process information very quickly and in parallel."

"Let down the hologram and let me see what you look like."

He does. He looks like a robot greyhound on its hind legs.

"You can put it back up. What do you think are your most useful qualities as a person?" It's obnoxious to have to rely on self-reporting for this, but she can't yet make heads nor tails of the inside of his mind.

"I'm very good with dogs."

"...Useful to people," she clarifies, annoyed.

"I am also good with technology."

"Good. Do you have any useful technology with you not part of your person?"
