Micqui is very good, fortunately, at bringing things from Elathea's level to the girls'.

"I can teach you more about the wyld and sneaking, if you want," Gleam offers, the first time she catches Samira sneaking out of Elathea's workshop. "The wyld behaves a bit differently out here, especially compared to my realm."

Samira cocks her head. "How's it different?"

"Well... The wyld in my realm was mine. Still dangerous, but dangerous like I am - so I could keep you safe." Small smile. "This isn't my realm, though, and this land doesn't really know me yet. It'll be more dangerous, and you'll have to pay very, very good attention to learn how to navigate it."

"I'm good at paying attention."

"I know." Smile.

She reaches out a hand to Samira. "Want to start practicing?"

Eager nod as she takes her mama's hand.

Bright grin.

She can't get them far right now - but she spins reality around Samira, plays at being a raksha, and the next day when they set out for Elathea's latest trip out, she and Samira keep going from that base, leaving Samira's sisters with their mom.

The bordermarches, first, the mild and near and wondrous - not too different from Gleam's little pockets of wyld, but she makes Samira identify every threat and practice navigating before going deeper.

They go silently when they travel, Gleam quietly demonstrating how to twist yourself and your story to unseen, and Gleam sits them down at seemingly random waypoints (though there's a slow pattern emerging, if Samira is attentive) and tells stories. Some of them are a bit pointed - stories about young girls who go unprepared into dangerous places, who try to riddle with fey lords, who fail or succeed - a few very pointed stories with the probable moral of 'be more careful sneaking into your mom's lab.' Many of them simply are, and she encourages Samira to tell her own stories, to spin thought and poetry out.

(They're not the only travelers. They rather frequently meet others at waypoints; Gleam gets into quite a few riddle or story contests with raksha, demonstrating rather clearly to Samira how to do that - and pokes Samira into a few of her own contests. Samira can win some very neat things that way, though her mama won't let any high stakes be established.)

Many of the stories are about the wyld, of course, and other things beyond Creation. The tale of Luna and Gaia has a different energy out here, and well told stories conjure up images of their subjects - and the stories of Luna and Gaia and the Silver Chair are so wondrously vivid.

Layla and Micqui never express anything more than vague unease about the wyld, which makes the times they spend following Elathea around on sorcery-relevant tasks all the better for Gleam and Samira's trips.

Gleam hasn't taken Samira past the middlemarches yet, though. Certainly not to anywhere as neat as the Silver Chair, which she's clearly been to - not just from her stories, but one raksha lord teases her about her absence from Lady Luna's parties.

"Mama says I'm not old enough to stay up all night yet," she informs him.

Samira isn't looking at Gleam's face, so Gleam can look as entertained as she wants about that.

The raksha puts a crystal-clawed hand over his heart. "Is that so? Why, what a strange thing - you certainly seem of a nocturnal bent to me."

"Looks can be deceiving."

He grins. It's a pretty grin. "So they can." And, in a whisper, "I think you're old enough for parties, of course - "

He breaks off when he registers Gleam growling - and freezes, then vanishes in a sparkle, when he sees her snarling face.

"He wasn't very nice," Samira says. "...Not very smart, either. You were right there."

She laughs. "No. He's never been either of those."

Thoughtful hum.

"I would like to go to the moon, though."

Smile. "I'd like to take you there, you and Layla both. But it's unsafe, especially for mortals, so I want to make sure you're really good at staying safe out here first, okay?"

"'Kay..."

She ruffles Samira's hair. "You'll be there soon enough."

Nod nod.

"Tell me more stories about it?" she requests.

"Whatever you want."

And she settles in - this time, with stories of the myriad dangers a young girl on an adventure could face.

Gotta know what the dangers are before you can have a plan to face them.

Exactly.

Samira will listen attentively, then.

Gleam makes it as easy as she can, keeping Samira engaged.

And when everyone meets back up, Samira has many tales to share with Micqui and Layla.
