Ear rubs!

"I'm impressed, you two."

Happy rumbles.

She flicks her ear, pleased, but seems more flopped than her twin.

Small laugh.

She's fine sitting here petting Samira for a good little while - though, as the sun starts setting, she does ask, "Do you guys want to go inside, now? I can carry you both."

Agreeable chirp.

Yawn.

Scoop! Sister one, then over to sister two for a second scoop. She settles them pretty carefully in her arms; it's not exactly the first time she's carried them like this.

Floppy kitties.

Should she carry them all the way to bed?

Probably...

"It's no problem at all." More scritches as she enters their family's private wing. "My room is right across from you two's."

Nuzzle.

To bed, then. She tucks both twins in, humming a soft lullaby, and - if neither seems inclined to tell her to leave - will stay there until they're deep asleep, singing quietly.

Zzzzzz.

Layla drifts asleep even before Samira, snuggling into her twin.

She smiles, softly, and leaves the room as quietly as she can, before going to see if her mothers are still up.

They are, in fact.

"Hey," she says, settling in on a nearby seat. "Everything going alright?"

"No unexpected setbacks. How do you find our little tigers?"

"Delightful." Fond grin. "And - I've really missed them."

"I'm sorry you guys got, like, a day's notice I was coming back - and, uh, I mentioned this during dinner, but... I'm not going back to school."

"Is everything all right?"

Hum. "I mean..." Shrug. "I - didn't like it there. Didn't like who I was becoming, I guess, or..."

A pause. "I don't like the other Sidereals, or the dynastic kids, or... The person they want to see when they look at me."

Elathea pats Micqui on the shoulder. "It is good that you can know yourself that way."

Gleam nods. "Figuring out that type of thing can be - hard, yeah."

Small nod.

"...It wasn't - even knowing myself? I'd been perfectly fine with it. Enjoying the power games, the obsessively precise rituals, outwitting people, showing off... Obsessively planning my every move toward this or that goal, weaving every friendship into just - getting ahead."

"And then I realized - I guess just. We keep being told that if we don't make these connections, learn these things, prove ourselves now, then we'll fall behind, and we'll never catch up, and... That's stupid. Even if I don't extend my life past Sidereal norms - that's thousands of years. I could go fuck off for a millennium and sleep on a mountaintop and come back and act like I'm some mystic elder. I don't need to - to keep on top of everything, constantly, all the time, to drown myself in it."

"...That wasn't the thing I realized first. I realized I hadn't seen the twins for more than, like, a day, in... Since their birthday, I guess? And I don't."

"Want to become someone who only interacts with others through those games."
