The worm snaps out of Sky's spell, visible quantities of mana forming a band of light between it and Sky's body. Sky screams as it suddenly yanks her upward, lifting her hips toward its mouth, from which emerges the hidden ovipositor. It plunges into Sky, tearing her wide on the massive phallus, before coiling its tentacles tight enough to bruise and hauling Sky up and down its shaft rapidly enough that her head flops.

With the worst possible timing, three new bog worms push up from underground a short distance away. One of them swivels and homes in on the three adventurers, drawing the attention of the other two.

...ah, of course, it was a rookie mistake to assume the number of bog worms they're supposed to kill is the number of bog worms there are—

Welp. Sword time.

Coventina hesitates over Sky for a moment before leaving the girl where she lay and pulling on her sap gloves. Then she turns and sprints after Laurent. She's faster than him.

She slips by the first worm, distracting it from Laurent, and then rears back and slams her fist into the second worm's body.

Her fist sinks in the full length of her arm, and then rebounds, throwing her off her feet. As her butt hits the ground, the worm's larger tentacles snatch up her legs. "Well fuck," she deadpans just before it hauls her into the air.

(Thankfully, the third worm has wandered off and isn't currently attacking them.)

It has occurred to Laurent that it could be a tactically viable move to crack their mana cores so they focus on fucking themselves to death and not on attacking him. On the other hand if he does this to one worm while there's still another on the field, the second one will be able to focus undistracted on him once the first has stolen Coventina from it... perhaps for now he will just do regular violence.

"Vital Rush!"

That's one worm bled-out and easy to finish off.

Coventina gasps as the smaller pink tentacles coil around her hips, one sliding inside her as they pull her into the worm's mouth. But this time at least her hands are free. She punches the worm in the head repeatedly, not doing much damage but disorienting it enough that it doesn't manage to even get its ovipositor into her before Laurent catches up.

Using Vital Rush to super-fast-forward blood loss is such a hack and she loves it.

He slashes this bog worm a few times and spares a moment to glance at Sky to make sure she is still safe and no bog worms have made off with her while he was distracted.

Actually, the third worm has apparently circled around while they were distracted.
