After breakfast is over--

Okay, after breakfast is over she takes a fucking nap. Until lunchtime. But after lunch is over, she goes to find Bella. 

Bella's in the library doing schoolwork with Caio.

"Hi!" 

"Hi Kareen, what's up?"

"...There is a thing we were discussing earlier that I have an update on and I don't actually know what Caio would think of it," she nods to him to make it clear she's not dismissing him just because she referred to him in the third person. 

"Well I certainly don't know what I would think of it either."

Snort. Hand out to Kareen.

She takes Bella's hand and transports her to the pocket dimension. 

"It's the thing where I used Dragon Fairy Elf Witch on kind of a lot of mals."

"One of the decisions of all time."

"It's the kind of decision where I am literally immune to all the reasons it would normally be a bad idea! ...I don't mind bringing Caio in on this conversation if you think he wouldn't freak out about it."

"Oh he might but in a temporary and manageable way."

"Works for me!"

Externally: "Bella thinks it's fine to bring you in on it, if you'd like." Hand offer.

"Hoo boy, okay." Hand.

"So you've read my pamphlet, right?"

"Ye-e-es..."

"I've been using Dragon Fairy Elf Witch on all the mals I kill in the gym at night."

"...the one that makes you related to them? Well, I'm sure some of them have perfectly respectable family members like octopuses and stuff! I guess! If you go back far enough!" he says, getting squeakier as the utterance proceeds.

"It gives me their useful traits, it doesn't adopt them. I have two parents, no siblings, no living aunts or uncles, no living grandparents, and while I might theoretically have some cousins some degree removed somewhere, I don't really care. I have exactly the same amount of family I always had."

"This must be some exotic use of the word heritage I was not aware of!"

"Think of it less as an exotic usage and more as a metaphor. I used Dragon Fairy Elf Witch on the Scholomance and the notebook that gave me my powers in the first place, the power clearly doesn't work exclusively on DNA."

"Did not expect it to work on DNA!"

"Well, it also doesn't work by rewriting history so the Scholomance fucked my great-great-grandma."

"I don't think Caio's alarm is about the specific underlying mechanism or as the case may be nonmechanism by which you are related to any of these things, just the bare fact that you are - absorbing the influence of mals."
