Her attitude had as much to do with that.

Good. She doesn't mind sharing, but she'd hate to be competing against every pretty girl for her Lady's time.

No, not every one. But her dear Bella should ought to let her know if one catches her eye. That seems likely to be a reasonable filter.

"Well, there's Fay..."

"Ah yes, the mysterious Fay. She does sound like someone I would like to meet."

Giggle. "Pretty, smart, funny, has sensible objections to our society, willing to just leave it all behind... And I'm starting to think she might be a masochist, from how she acts in spars."

"Makes me want to wrap her up as a gift for you."

Kiss.

"Well, Bella dear, I would hardly say no to such a heartfelt token of appreciation."

Kiss!

"Of course, being such a nice mistress, you could let me kiss her too sometimes..." she purrs.

"If you both ask very politely, perhaps. And I will have to... supervise."

"I think I can do polite. For you at least, my Lady."

"That is all I ask."

Kiss. "Yes ma'am."

"Good girl."

Moving forward... the start of the Black Campaign is their next step.

Something Bellatrix has been looking forward to.

The first step's still getting to her great-grandmother's house - Violetta Black does indeed take over her graduation party, and Bellatrix speaks with her Lady beforehand about what to pay attention to, then examines the wards, chats with the house elves, memorizes the floor plan, even manages to compliment her great-grandmother on the magic she's worked into her house and express a deep interest in runes, and of course her great-grandmother is a master...

(The extra knowledge she's gotten from her Lady helps there.)

She pays more attention to her family than she usually does, too, playing the dutiful daughter who had a bit of a rebellious phase but realizes she needs to take her position seriously now that she's an adult. She has to suppress the extent of her glee when one of her aunts suggests a tea date - and she talks to Orion Black (far more reasonable than his wife Walpurga) about how she could come tutor Sirius and Regulus. Help Sirius with his struggling grades, get Regulus to feel included in his big brother's life, try and head off Sirius's own budding rebellious phase with some perspective... Perhaps even arrange some outings for just the younger generation now that Bella's a responsible adult. Give their parents something of a break. (Orion expresses relief that she's come around - gives him hope for his oldest. Bellatrix laughs and says that's just what teenagers today are like.)

She's able to flatter a few more relatives into 'considering' introducing her around, perhaps inviting her to a dinner at their place, so she can meet some of the real movers and shakers. Not firm dates yet... But she has her foot in the door.

She returns to her Lady feeling like she's been dipped in grime that needs to be scoured off, but with a rather successful report.

A truly masterful piece of work.

This looks like all they could need to plan an attack in earnest.

Bellatrix thinks so too, and has some ideas for timing and approach...

She also now has a more thorough idea of how her great-grandmother treats her house elves, and, well. Violetta often has days she doesn't engage with the outside world - it'd be quite poetic to put her in her elves' position for a day before mounting her head. They might have to use the Imperius some, but needs must.

It is a tool like any other. Always use the appropriate spell for the task at hand.

Heh.

"Not sure casting it would be my style, but I can learn."

"It is commonly considered to be less difficult than Legilimency, and you seem to be proficient with that."

"Of course. I'm brilliant."

"But I don't tend to - really want to control others."

She nods. "Not what one would call a character flaw, but it does make the spell trickier. Do you want to learn?"

"Yeah, I do."

Then she will teach.

First she puts Bella under the curse, to feel what it's like. It's like her brain is wrapped in fluffy cotton, thoughts drifting like molasses. The orders come as guideposts in the warm sea of her being, solid directions it seems only natural to follow.

Wow this feels so weird.

...Also another thing she'd hate from anyone else but likes from her Lady.

(Relatedly, there's a noticeable bias in what orders she can successfully throw off, once that's tested. Things that'll please or put her near her Lady are incredibly hard to resist, while she's able to extremely easily throw off anything she isn't actually inclined to do anyways.)

She might want to work on that tendency, but it does illustrate a common principle. Reasonable orders are more difficult to resist than unreasonable orders. In the end, it comes down to a contest of wills. If the subject is worn down by other means, potions or injury or other charms, they will be easier to subdue with the Imperius.
