"Not a rush, babe. We can test it some the old fashioned way, the girls played a lot of TTRPGs back in their old world."

"...That would also help.  Not as well with the sort of split-second judgement calls I'm thinking are a major thing we'd want to have you practice, but certainly at least for investigations."

Yang grins. "It practices the right kind of thinking, at least! And it's cheaper than VR gear, just some paper and plastic."

"I suppose it's all about the same amount of fiddly-to-Create, as well.  And paper has more uses than specialized hardware."

"The one problem is that we didn't have any GMless RPGs saved on our scroll. Or even really any RPGs, I think. Well, maybe?"

She pulls out the Company scroll and starts looking through ebook files.

"I'll see if there's anything I have."

After a moment, Yang comments, "Hm. Looks like we've got a vampire RPG, and that's it. Sable or Hailey probably picked this one out."

Meanwhile: ...That's a lot of TTRPGs in the "Downtime Activities" folder.  Where did they find them all?  How did the rules of baseball end up in the folder for TTRPGs?  (She can fix that quickly enough, and does so.)

There is, unsurprisingly, something of a skew of subject matter onto heroics, but it's useful for this purpose.

"...I have quite a few things, apparently.  Many of them are...  Aggressively heroics-oriented, I suppose - but I don't think that's a bad thing, given what we're trying to train, and that you do have your spider-Quirk."

"Aggressively heroics-oriented, huh? Sounds perfect for this, yeah. Any of 'em adapt well to GMless?"

"I wouldn't know.  But should we be trying to do that?  If we're trying to really simulate you having to make decisions in the field, you're not going to have as much insight into what you're facing as you'd like."

"Well yeah, I was trying to see if there was a way we could both be surprised. That's hard to manage with tabletop games, but I was hoping, y'know?"

"Oh, I see.  ...That is something that would be nice to accomplish, if we're practicing those sorts of decisions as a team, but I don't particularly imagine that there's a good way to do it without techniques I don't know."

"Maybe one of the worlds we visit will have an FLGS we can ask for advice at. That'd be handy."

"We can hope."

Yang shrugs and grins. "Wanna give one of those a try, then?"

"Sure!"

They spend the next few hours trying out a superhero game, and quickly discover that there are rollable encounter tables and other ways to play the game GMless included. Momo's support engineers really did think of nearly everything. They start off with Momo running the villains, but also try a couple rounds from the encounter and twist tables to let Momo get some surprises in too, and even work in a timer on the Company Device to force quicker thinking. Yang winds up nicknaming most villains they face, and practices her snappy banter a bit too.

By the end of it, though, Yang's hitting front fatigue. "Eheh, think this is my limit for today, babe. Mind if I hand off to Sable for dinner and wind-down?"

"Why are you asking me?"  She seems genuinely shocked that this is a question that she would be allowed input into.  "It's you all's body, I don't get a say in that!  I'm not there!  You all do whatever's good for you."

"Eh, sometimes we can't decide, and sometimes Sable gets a bit stuck if we're not careful. Helps to talk to someone else about it."

She shakes her head. "But lemme bail for now."

Their head tilts to the side for a moment, eyes going a bit unfocused—

Before Sable shakes her head vigorously and smiles softly at Momo. "Brrr, there we go, okay." She quickly flips the beads, smiling gratefully at Momo as she does.

With what little shreds of polyconsciousness they have, Ruby glomps Yang in mindspace before they fade into a fuzzy warmth for the moment.

"Wow," she murmurs. Did not expect that to happen, but we'll take the win."

"...If I'm helping you decide, the question isn't whether I mind," she says, looking off into the middle distance, her voice quiet.  "But yes, obviously I'll help when you all need it, or want it, I just...  Don't give me a veto, especially over ordinary business?  I don't want one."

Oh, Sable said something while she was putting that thought together, what was it - ah!  "Didn't expect -- oh, you weren't expecting Yang to, um, exist?  ...I'm glad you found her, too."

"Yeah, I can already feel Ruby... unclenching, kinda. Relaxing now that her sister's here."

She heads over to the freezer and grabs one and a half persines, cutting them into slices, then plates up the whole one for Momo and takes the half for herself. "Been a good day, I think."
