To be clear, Lucy looked both ways before crossing the street.
But the corner to her left had a lot of foliage, so the visibility in that direction wasn’t great. Even so, whoever was driving that truck was clearly driving recklessly.
Well.
Lucy learned so many things, that time! More than she wanted to!
When Suture shows up, she immediately steals his stuff without waiting for him to make his typical interjection, and says, “Do you know of any way to get below the city? Like, sewers, or storm drains, or a convenient cave system or anything.”
“Good enough.” She can worry about finding the Neathers later. In ways that don’t involve breaking even more stuff than the demons already are.
“Terendelev pierced Deskari’s hide multiple times, and she’s still dead. I have other things to try to accomplish.”
Lucy, on the other hand, has still never heard Areelu Vorlesh’s name!
Okay. Time to…go back to selling corpses…maybe she should have made small talk with the demon for longer bad Lucy.
Once she’s managed to sell enough miscellaneous crap to afford the oil, she double-checks that Terendelev’s body is still there, and saves again. Because she could, in fact, get super murdered by a demon at any time, and she’s lucky to have managed this the once.
This one corpse that she happens to have stopped beside as she was saving is less dead than it appeared! Or maybe not, it’s really banged up, but it’s also getting up and eating her face!
ACK
As soon as her save reloads she sprints away from the corpse while hissing “save game!!!” under her breath.
Ack again but like mildly less so! She inventories the spear and flees again but like orthogonally.
FUCK. Okay, load save and then change direction BEFORE charging directly into that guy’s personal space. While hissing “save game” again. It’s really not amazing how she only gets one save and it’s used up when she loads it! Not amazing at all!
This time she manages to get all the way to the shelter of a relatively discreet alleyway. She checks, before ducking in, that there’s nothing that immediately wants to kill her there, then saves again and allows herself to slide to the ground, put her head between her knees, and take some deep breaths.

…Hmm.
“The Ravener Cometh” sounds, uh, ominous. But she…doesn’t really have any reason to think that whatever horrors it portends won’t still occur if she fails to save Terendelev without accepting the quest, and also she doesn’t intend to fail to save Terendelev.
So she taps yes.
Sneaking and scroll reading are good and useful skills to have. She’s a little annoyed scroll reading is at level one, but actually all of her practice was in timelines that didn’t happen, soooo maybe don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Reanimator…
…Uh…
…So the problem is, obviously, that she has no idea what undeath in this world looks like. It could be a bad thing, or it could be eighty-twentying proper resurrection. She has no idea.
But the quest is only to learn a spell! Not to cast it! So if this is the kind of universe where necromancy is bad actually, she can just learn the spell and then never cast it. That’s fine. She accepts.
Damn straight her running skill improved after that mad dash.
Cute, sure, why not. It’s not like she expects to be able to avoid dying, going forward.
Hm.
“Info, skills, Inventory Snag?”
Info/Skills/Inventory Snag
Level 1
Inventory snag is the skill of touching an object and saying “inventory” fast enough to inventory the item before it can be removed, or used to harm you, or otherwise do something you don’t want. At level 1, you will be able to inventory most items held by people who weren’t actively moving around and who have no idea that that’s even a thing you can do.
Okay, that sounds potentially useful! Especially once she’s higher level and taking any damage whatsoever becomes less of a deal breaker.
She peers around the corner.
Terendelev’s corpse is still largely unattended, although several demons have removed small pieces from it, whether to eat or as souvenirs or because they have some form of value Lucy doesn’t have the experience to guess.
Grotesque. But probably manageable.
She attempts to sneak out of her alley and towards the corpse.
A horrible short little guy of a demon notices her and causes a cold of noxious fumes in her general area.
—That is LITERALLY the worst thing she has ever smelled. She throws up immediately, and then flees the horrible stench, slowed down some by the fact that she’s not done vomiting.
She does manage to find a hiding spot a little closer to Terendelev’s body, though, and the horrible little guy doesn’t come kill her while she’s curled up heaving, so that part is good.
