To be clear, Lucy looked both ways before crossing the street.
But the corner to her left had a lot of foliage, so the visibility in that direction wasn’t great. Even so, whoever was driving that truck was clearly driving recklessly.
“Thanks!”
The scroll is a chunk out of the total funds she needs to accumulate but only a chunk. Tap, tap—
Rrgh. Annoying. Also, painful, but less so than the chest wound was, even aside from being over pretty fast. Okay, how long can Terendelev last this time?
A new best!!! Lucy creates a new save because she does not have enough time left to try to replicate that anyway. Okay. Back to fundraising! Lucy is too cheered by this development to even be too squicked about selling the humanoid corpses!
Lucy has to physically bite her tongue to refrain from commenting, you always say that.
“Hello, thank you, sorry,” she says, stealing the scroll. And, okay, his clothes are apparently unstealable, but what about that crossbow? And—
Wow okay WHAT is a Midnight Bolt and HOW is it worth THAT MUCH.
“Stole your stuff, sorry.” Well, she’s not, really, but it costs zero dollars to be polite.
“That’s a crossbow as I’ve heard could pierce the hide of Deskari himself! If you’re going to take it, you’d better use it.”
Well, it’s obviously the bolt and not the bow that’s special, but—okay, so this is the guy who fires the shot that makes Deskari split the ground, apparently. Probably she wants to avoid that? Distracting Deskari for one more round probably isn’t worth the major landscape rearrangement.
“If I do that, Deskari will get mad and break the terrain, and I don’t think anyone wants that.”

Seriously???
“I don’t suppose you know of any way, other than Deskari carving giant holes in the ground, to get underneath Kenabres.”
Great!
She considers tossing bow and bolt alike back to Suture, but decides that that’s probably a bad idea, since if she keeps them she can sell the bow after firing the bolt. Also it’s probably a bad idea to hand highly magical arrows to demons even if you got them from them in the first place.
“Inventory,” she says again, and the crossbow materializes in her hands; “inventory,” and she’s holding the bolt.
She’s never fired a crossbow before, but the actual mechanical operation of the device is reasonably straightforward. Aiming is another story, but fortunately Deskari is the size of the proverbial barn and also, again, the bolt is highly magical.
As predicted, this causes Deskari to put some rifts in the ground!
But like. In a way where his scythe was clearly aimed at her, and consequently the biggest rift is right under her feet.
…Okay.
She is at the bottom of a rift and not dead.
She’s not going to keep this iteration, obviously; she has no immediate way back up and she hasn’t collected Terendelev’s corpse yet.
But it’s probably a good idea to see if she can do some scouting, gather some more information, before she loads again.
She wobbles to her feet and decides that since she’s 1) not keeping this timeline and 2) in the dark, she might as well investigate her own spellcasting abilities by spending (1) mana on Light.
Up ahead, there’s an elegant young woman in light armor crouched over a dying man and running her fingers through his blood while crooning something under her breath.
The creepy stranger’s lightly-pointed ears twitch, and she leaps to her feet, brandishing a rapier. “Who’s there!”
