Down in the forest, there is a tree.
What's left of one, anyway.
The Nemeton calls another supernatural creature to its town.
The blood that drips onto it forms a circle.
"Scott should be here any minute, he's just stopping to pick up Theo."
"Dr. Deaton was telling me the other day about a separatist pack of werewolves."
"Saitomi's pack. They've taken a few losses, but they're still around. Why?"
"Asking Brett may be more efficient. I wasn't aware we could readily contact one of the betas."
"If the kids are done having teen romcom plotlines, I think the takeaway is that you can get in touch with them if we convince a teenager to trust you. Sounds easy to me."
"He's older than me and Mason by a lot, we're freshman. And he's like, the oldest one here. I think he's bitter because we're all better looking."
"Anyway, moving on, I think that's Scott driving up now thank god."
"Hey, sorry we were late. Theo had to explain what was going on to his parents."
"They like to worry. Might do it professionally if it paid well."
He turns to Ellie.
"Hey. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you earlier. I'm Theo."
"I wanted to explain the Dread Doctors. It's new, and they like to feel like they know what's going on, even if they don't want the details."
"The bad guys are abducting people, and we're trying to stop it. They don't want to get involved. They're good people, but they know they can't really handle this kind of thing, and they don't try to stop me."
"Okay. As much fun as just yapping like this is, maybe we can do something useful while we wait?"
