Down in the forest, there is a tree.
What's left of one, anyway.
The Nemeton calls another supernatural creature to its town.
The blood that drips onto it forms a circle.
"Actually, there are surprisingly few on a large scale. This world is very similar to how my Earth was in this year, despite the difference in magics."
"Without the most powerful and murderous rituals, most druids wield defensive or subtle magic, not useful for direct attacks. Creatures that have magic within them come in many varieties, and there, it's best to look at myth and bestiaries."
"How accurate are the myths? Do you have any bestiaries not written by Hunters?"
"Most bestiaries are written by hunters, because the rest of us don't interact nearly as much with both civilization and the supernatural. The psychology is partly a result of magic, partly a result of culture. Mythology in general is a good starting place. Most myths are based on a specific, real creature, but not all purported traits will be accurate."
"Would it be possible to test other spells besides the mountain ash circle? I am indestructible so far as I know, if magic can route around that it would be better to know sooner than later."
"Almost all of my 'spells' are defensive in nature, so we can see if various things can keep you out, but I'm afraid for more, you'll have to wait a few days while I find someone more suited."
"Alright. So I'll try to keep you out until I run out of techniques, and then we can meet again in a few days. Let's walk to the door. I'll try a few barriers to keep you out."
He retrieves a few vials and jars, and places them on the ground.
"I'll be testing a few things, most of which should take a few minutes. All told, we'll be here for half an hour. Is that alright?"
"Alright."
He begins to pour a thick, caramel liquid from a small vial. Sap or syrup, based on the smell. Probably a mess to clean up, really.
"I'd like you to try to get in. First try opening the door without your magic, then with it. Then, with the door open, try walking across, try flying yourself across, and then, if that fails, try disrupting the line."
Not unexpected.
Close the door. This time she opens it without touching it.
