When Vanyel is ready for the mad science tour, he shows him the monkeys. "They're monkeys," she feels it necessary to clarify. "I know they look very human at this point, because the whole point of them is that I'm going to move into one if I ever die, but they're not people, and I have forbidden the staff to name them. I could move into one now if I had to but I'd like to get one actually looking like me in particular first, and I want to stick more Gifts into them, I got Fetching out of some Changesquirrels but further work is needed." She shows him the mice, too. "Do you suppose Jisa'd like a winged mouse? What's her favorite color?" She shows him all her microbiology eggs. "That's a flu sample from the recent plague! I remembered to take one. Those there are other flus. The white eggs have more-alive microbes and the brown eggs have less-alive kinds - there's a cold one of the staff mages had a few months ago, there's food poisoning, there's the most common kind from healthy intestines - you could get your Sight this fine, you know, I don't do heavy Healing-Gift use apart from Sight for this work."
It's more evenly matched with that; he wins one, but loses the second game because he's starting to microsleep when it's her turn and losing track of where her pieces even are.
"I'm afraid if nobody's been spared from cleanup and reconstruction to go fishing I'm not going to be able to find a cup of tea anywhere, sorry."
Leareth spends a while blinking at her before admitting that he can't parse that sentence at all, probably this is on him for being incredibly bleary. Tea...isn't...made of fish...?
"No, no, tea isn't made of fish, but it's indicative of how much effort has been going into food, that no one is fishing even though the river's probably got as many fish in it as usual fire or no fire."
Nod. "- I am sorry, my mind is still stuck on imagining fish tea and how awful it would be. Imagine if you were expecting normal tea and then got a sip of that instead. I suppose it would be apparent first from the smell..."
"Oh no, that would be awful. I guess a really good cook might be able to do a fish soup with tea flavor in it?"
Eventually she decides they can probably go to bed and snuggles him to sleep.
Leareth is, in fact, alert and mostly cheerful again the next morning. "Well. I should remember how unpleasant the day after is when I consider doing that again, but - a productive two days even averaging it out, I think."
This morning Leareth has considerably more energy to kiss her back for a while before they both need to head off for their day's work.
Good. She likes having him fully functional.
How many Companions are swinging through the Web-room?
:I was thinking of talking to Them but I'm not sure I actually have substantive questions, I'm just vaguely curious:
:What talking to Them is like. ...What being a god is like, but I doubt They'll give a useful answer:
:It might be worth occasionally talking to Them about things like that because it could result in Them storing useful translation-concepts? But yeah, I don't know:
:I think I'll see if I still want to tomorrow. How's Leareth recovering from his all-nighter?:
:Poor thing. I worry it’s bad for his health, doing that. But I guess he has life-extending magic and a monkey to pop into when he needs to:
:Yes. And a lifebonded Healer. And one of these days I'll get around to Healerizing him too probably:
:Ooh, careful or he might decide he wants every Gift that exists: Pause. :...Figure you could give extra Gifts to Companions?:
:I've thought about that - I need to make you a backup out of a horse at some point and would want it to have the ones you're used to at least. It might be harder because you're architected oddly and who knows how all your weird emergency powers work but it doesn't seem out of the question:
