When Vanyel is ready for the mad science tour, he shows him the monkeys. "They're monkeys," she feels it necessary to clarify. "I know they look very human at this point, because the whole point of them is that I'm going to move into one if I ever die, but they're not people, and I have forbidden the staff to name them. I could move into one now if I had to but I'd like to get one actually looking like me in particular first, and I want to stick more Gifts into them, I got Fetching out of some Changesquirrels but further work is needed." She shows him the mice, too. "Do you suppose Jisa'd like a winged mouse? What's her favorite color?" She shows him all her microbiology eggs. "That's a flu sample from the recent plague! I remembered to take one. Those there are other flus. The white eggs have more-alive microbes and the brown eggs have less-alive kinds - there's a cold one of the staff mages had a few months ago, there's food poisoning, there's the most common kind from healthy intestines - you could get your Sight this fine, you know, I don't do heavy Healing-Gift use apart from Sight for this work."
"Yeah. I - if I'd had warning I think I might have tried writing letters to safely get to know Leareth? I don't know if you could set that up without it being weird."
"Right now that feels so weird! And Stef would be really suspicious about it if I avoided him all the time but wanted to write him letters! I guess maybe I can tell Randi I want to move up north and work there? For some reason? And then I won't have to awkwardly avoid Stef here and I'll have an excuse to stay in touch with him and Medren."
"...I mean, pretty soon it's not Randi you have to tell, and I know the reason."
"That's fair. I'm worried he might hound me at the wedding, but I guess I can hide."
"Yes. Not because he's guessed or anything, just because I'm a famous war hero and apparently that's very glamorous." Vanyel makes such a face about this.
Nod. "I'm sorry you have to get dragged into this too. It's so awkward."
"Mmm." Vanyel shuffles his feet. "I should– er, I think I need some time alone..."
It's a lot to absorb and Vanyel still has no idea how to think or feel about it, but he's in a better mood by the time the wedding day rolls around. Or at least not bursting into tears at random, anyway.
Leareth's wedding outfit managed to get quite a bit of embroidery done on it, and he's pleased with it, holding it up for Belrun's perusal.
"It's fine. I decided not to have microbes embroidered on it because they're mostly not very pretty, so it's just flowers."
"Fair enough."
Leareth paces.
"...I am sorry to be dumping stress at you through the lifebond. I think it is unlikely anything bad will happen, nonetheless, I am going to be tense until today is over."
Hug.
And once they're done getting ready, they can head out to see if there are any final pre-wedding logistics to be checked.
Savil is in charge of security arrangements (provided by Valdemar, that is, Leareth has some supplemental ones), and confirms to Leareth that it's all been done to their specifications.
And on their wedding day they can get married! Belrun usually has her hair tied back to keep it out of the way; she wears it down with the wedding dress, which flatters her very nicely.
Awwwww. She looks pretty enough that Leareth momentarily forgets to be stressed. :I love you:
They don't get married in a temple; they use one of the new Heraldic public buildings, with some extra illusioned decor.
Rana's there, and Chalan has ridden in too, and they're thrilled!
