We want to verify a few things and talk to my alt but if the story checks out we have lots of resources for you and could use your guidance on how to make the war end cleanly."

She consults her computer. It is snazzy for 2010 but not as nice as the demonic model. "I can get you my dinner slot, seven to eight local time?"

"Thanks. How much security are they keeping my alt under, and are they set up to handle teleportation?"

"They are not set up to handle teleportation. What's the range on your thoughtspeak thing?"

"Three hundred miles."

"Then you probably want to land near but not right on top of him and ask him for advice on when and how to approach more closely."

"Does he have a -" illusion Findekáno - "looks like this when he comes in humanoid -"

"- yes. Assuming the 'happen to look like their alternate universe versions in favored blended human morph' thing is consistent. Finleran's here on Earth, do you want to talk to him?"

"Finleran. It's usually Findekáno but there's also Ferardrin and Finankar. I'm guessing he'll be likelier than you to explain to me what the story is and why it's a secret."

"I'll send him a message - when do you want to talk to him?"

"At his earliest convenience. In the meantime, I don't suppose you have any really really trustworthy Yeerks on hand?"

"...for what purpose?"

"We are indestructible - shooting me wouldn't do anything, an orbital strike wouldn't do anything, if I were in a black hole and couldn't teleport out for some reason I'd be really inconvenienced. Whether it protects against Yeerks seems like a fairly important question. I would take the Yeerk with me over to a planet where we have a precog, take an indestructible volunteer without any other magic powers over there also, intend to test whether indestructibility beats Yeerk, and learn the answer."

"For that a morphed Yeerk would do, you wouldn't need a real one. Lots of people have Yeerk morphs available. Finleran has one, if the standard is trustworthy-to-you. It's possible the answer would depend on the target species and the structure of the ear canal."

"Perfect, thank you."

"You're welcome."

She types up a note to Finleran: Someone who looks like an even more stupidly pretty version of Matirin's human morph, and another guy, showed up claiming that the one is an alternate universe version of Matirin. Produced a picture of your human morph and wanted to know if there was one of you around. They appear to have magical powers and wish to talk to you at your earliest convenience.

"Thanks for your time. We can get you the indestructibility too, but Hex'll need a couple days' notice - that's the place with the magic that does it - and I have no idea how it interacts with morphing."

"It sounds like the kind of thing that might not interact well with morphing," she agrees. "Maybe the precog can check that too."

"I will let you know. Do you have questions for us that shouldn't wait until we've verified this, or a way you'd like to verify us?"

"Verify away. I'm imagining you'll be more forthcoming with Matirin and if you're legit he'll tell us that we can trust each other."
