"Sorry, who are you -?" She glances between Island and Kib in confusion.

"There are parallel dimensions. They tend to have some of the same people in them. We are from a different one, and we're here to learn about yours, and we didn't realize that yours also has a version of me in it - there are ways to check, but they aren't perfect -"

"...I see." She stands aside to let them in. There are chairs opposite her desk. She sits down at her desk.

"Thank you! I go by Island - my name is Maitimo, but a lot of me are named Maitimo - and this is Kib. It's a pleasure to meet you. Is there magic that demonstrably can't be done locally, such that I can do it and establish that I am from very far away?"

"I wouldn't want to presume too far on what various sorts of aliens might or might not be able to do, but you can establish at least 'very far away' with, I don't know, what can you do?"

"I can teleport between dimensions and also across the room and so forth -" he does that - "I can make little illusions of the place I'm from -" here, have a Tirion, though no one can get Loki's resolution with these things.

"...okay. The aliens I have met can't do those things. You are from very far away."

"Yep! Can you give us an overview of this universe and then we'll reciprocate with an overview of all the other ones?"

"...okay. This is Earth. It is the home planet of my species, humans - are you humans or did you fox the filter?"

"I'm a human but I'm a weird human, he's an Elf. We didn't want to risk it so we teleported up."

"...okay. I don't really have a security measure that's robust against teleportation."

"We've been very selective about who has teleportation, you should not need to worry."

"Good. So, humans. And there are a couple relevant sorts of aliens, the Yeerks and the Andalites. Yeerks got here first. They're aquatic slugs yea big," gesture, "which can enter many sapient species' heads through the ear canal, wrap around the brain, near-instantly apprehend its contents, and control the associated body with almost perfect ability to hedge out attempts at interference from the host."

"They are not a threat to this planet at this time," she says. "And there's the Andalites, who are blue centaurs with an extra set of eyes on stalks and no mouths and blade-ended tails, and they're at war with the Yeerks. The Yeerks found Earth first and began quietly infiltrating it, mostly the United States. Their most substantial salient weakness is that they have to leave their hosts once every three days to swim around in a pool targeted by a specific wavelength, called Kandrona rays after their homeworld's sun; if they don't do that, they die, freeing their host if applicable. They had various covers for that set up, pools hidden wherever they were concentrated. Humans make unusually good hosts compared to most of the previously available options and there are more of us than there are of any other known sapient species. A group of Andalites showed up some years later to oppose the Yeerks here, and then quietly abducted a bunch of humans because they lack Yeerk advantages in figuring humans out without having to actually have conversations."

"Not a threat to this planet? Are there planets they are menacing?"

"They continue to have the overwhelming majority of the populations of three other species infested, and are making known inroads on several others and may be presumed to be on the hunt for more."

"...okay. Time-sensitive on the scale of a day in any way -"

"Not to my knowledge."

"So the Andalites arrived on Earth and kidnapped people -"

"Yes, a bunch of us, intending to quiz us all night, administer amnestics, and have us wake up in our beds none the wiser come morning."

We haven't mentioned she has alts yet and she's not sure if she does or if we're just here because she's in charge, wants to see if we expect her to hate the amnestics thing.

I am thinking 'Yeerks' are probably sufficient justification for everything she did but let's not just yet -
