It is said that the Eternal Rose, who is called by the name of Shelyn in Chelish and by the name of Hathor in the tongue of Osirion, counts among Her concerns not only art and beauty but also love. There was no lack of art in Asmodean Cheliax, and so there is little new for us to learn in that matter, save in the manner that a craftsman learns a new technique; but there was certainly a lack of love, and it is incumbent upon all of us to embrace the teachings of the Eternal Rose, that we may learn to truly love those whom we take to bed.
It is said that the act of making love is the most sacred of all acts to the Eternal Rose. Yet it is only sacred when it is done in the spirit of love, and not merely when it is done for the pleasure of a single person. The Eternal Rose despises whoredom, for no punter can truly be said to love a whore. The Eternal Rose despises also those men who take pleasure for themselves only, and consider not the women with whom they lay. Yet in truth She despises also those who pledge themselves to eternal celibacy, for they shall never know the bond of love that unites those lovers who truly honor Her. It is said that She is a friend to Erastil, Who commands that wives love their husbands and husbands love their wives; but She smiles upon all those who make love, even if they have not been united by the bond of marriage.
How, then, can we honor the Eternal Rose in the making of love? In truth it is very simple, even for one who has known only the false teachings of Asmodeus. For one who wishes to honor the Eternal Rose must seek to secure the pleasure of their lover, not merely their own pleasure. Asmodeus commanded us to take what we wanted and think nothing of the feelings of our lover, but this is anathema unto the Eternal Rose. She commands instead that one should ask one's lover how they wish to be touched, and then touch them in that manner; she likewise commands that one should ensure that one's lover feels the overwhelming joy of the Eternal Rose's blossom, even if this seems at first to be a weary task. The Eternal Rose smiles upon those who bring joy and satisfaction to their lovers, and blesses their union, for they alone understand the spirit of true love.
