She is sitting in the library, studying. It's her most common pastime, by hours; spending time with her sister is more enjoyable but Jaromira prefers to socialize more broadly and Katarzyna would only get in the way. This is better on net; the two of them share a room, so it isn't as though her sister's time is entirely hogged by the other girls who call this boarding school "home." Or at least "prison." Katarzyna doesn't mind it, though; the school library is excellent, and basic manners and care for the books has endeared her to the librarian to a sufficient degree to lubricate the interlibrary loans process when there's something she wants to read that they don't have.
"Neither am I. --Actually come to think of it I changed several things at the same time, it might be that the hair didn't change anything and I failed to notice--I'm usually better at controlling variables than that but my magic had just come in and I was too excited to think as clearly as I normally do." She changes her hair back to blonde to check.
Giggle. Bella reaches across the table to ruffle her hair. And steal some of her dessert.
"I'm doing the red and blue color scheme," Bella says, "and I'd rather blue than red."
"That's reasonable. I would be significantly gladder that natural hair is acceptable if I didn't have something like silver in my palette. Although come to think of it this palette was also a spur-of-the-moment decision; I should probably check at least a few others."
"I can volunteer Xander's amateur advice but I don't actually know how objectively good he is."
"It might be useful practice for him, at least, and he might think of things my sister missed, and if none of his ideas are good I can just revert to what I had beforehand."
"He'll probably want to start you from scratch because he heard once that Paladin stylists don't like to iterate from an existing outfit."
"Yup. Although I've found reconstructing from pictures a little annoying, you can't look at them in starscape so you have to keep switching back and forth!"
"I have a good memory anyway, I expect to be able to reconstruct most of the costume from memory and then touch it up based on the photos."
"I have mine memorized except for the exact layouts of circles. Those I let vary when I get dressed in the morning, and I take pictures and rate the results on a scale of one to a hundred, and we're going to try to derive a general principle I can condense into a circle-arranging algorithm I can memorize."
"You can look at the data sometime if you want, see if it generalizes to anything you're doing!"
"Even if it doesn't generalize to anything I'm doing now, it might generalize to something I do in the future."
"Yeah, you don't have anything quite like my circles thing going on. I really like my circles thing, it's simple enough that even having them all over doesn't feel gaudy, and they do a good balance of motif versus variety."
"I like my filigree motif. I won't keep it if it doesn't turn out to be my best option but I like it."
"It's pretty! According to me, maybe magic would prefer something else."
"Perhaps! I should try changing all my filigree to some other pattern at some point." She takes out her notepad and pen and writes this down.
