Holy fuck I want one, he thinks by five minutes in, and at eight - Maedhros is explaining how to make it maximally convenient for Cam to make you things, which things have the best value-to-Cam's time ratio, what numbers you want to be selling them in to not collapse the market, the commercial niches of lightleapers and warp drive ships respectively -

- Maedhros looks up at him and thinks I married mine but some of the space ones are single, odd historical reasons, you should drop in -

- and then keeps going...

T'Mir is quite oblivious to the subtext and just provides Warp context as they go - warp drive requires dilithium, it looks to casual inspection like at least Space Arda and Edda don't have it because in Warp it's otherwise quite unheard of to get very far technologically without turning up the concept, but Cam can make dilithium, but he can't make antimatter, they will need to consider sourcing on that -

"We've been cheating with sourcing and with scaling production by having people spend their wishes. You only get one, so don't do it lightly, but a lot of Vanda Nossëo's people got the ability to rapidly make magic items..."

If the materially scarce thing here is antimatter they should give extended grave consideration to how to phrase the wish and then have some of their Space Arda immigrants come in equipped to make it somehow. Or they can stack wishes in the following useful ways - more on this in the associated documentation -

And here's Vanda Nossëo's procedures for contact with preindustrial societies, and here's their procedures for terraforming where possible, and here's a nice secure embassy setup that doesn't require handing out teleports left and right...

"Ah, dropping tech boosts on planets, my favorite."

"It's so much fun! Anyhow, that's not all we've got but it's all we've got that's worth delivering in person rather than via data dump. Pleasure to meet you both."

"Thank you so much for coming. If I come up with any belated questions I'll drop them in the mailbox - Boots is working on a wizardry interface that'll let that propagate automatically without a teleporter but it's a month or two out at least -"

"Oh, that'd be miraculous, the current setup's terribly inconvenient. My pleasure. And good skill with the project, please feel free to borrow people with specific expertise you need, please do send those belated questions unhesitatingly, please do bother me in person if there's anything important."

"...my."

"This 'alternate universe versions of people' thing is being leveraged to do some very impressive stuff. In my home world we would all get squished by a flying brick. That was fascinating."

"Your homeworld should be safely evacuated of people and irreplaceable items and then itself squished by a flying brick," opines T'Mir. "But yes, alts are great, I can see why Loki's so fond of Maedhros in particular."

"He said I should go get us one."

"Not to bring back to Materia, surely? We only suspect it can be visited by sufficiently conscientious persons consistently, and under the circumstances oughtn't expect consistency."

"No, to bring back here. Materia, I agree, should be evacuated and squashed."

"Glad we're on the same page here. We are expecting a batch of consultants from Space, I'm not sure whether to expect a Maitimo to personally accompany them or not."

"I'll look forward to it. And I'm persuaded that we should be pulling our people out; how can we most efficiently screen them for you, and are we accelerating your evacuation timelines too much if we aim to move a whole kingdom?"

"We'll be less mana-limited when Boots has collected her apology from the Valar by a long shot, and that was previously one of our primary bottlenecks. Another was architectural assembly, which we can end-run around by getting designs completed - or copying someone - and then asking Cam. Principal concerns remaining are cultural integration - we'd been spreading by word of mouth and limiting the offer to humans so far rather than try to deal with some of the colorful variety Materia has to offer right away - and retaining the ability to govern if there's unrest in spite of the fact that many practitioners of various Materian magic have been practicing longer than Boots and will find themselves suddenly just as free to research via experimentation as she is. We're not within range of any of the high precision hard counters so we'll need to rely on something other than the ability to make wishes or get Loki to wield infinity stones in an emergency."

"I and most of my family will be higher-level than nearly anyone you pull in, but not enough you can lay that concern to rest entirely. Has Hex's indestructibility been tested against Materian magic?"

"I don't think so. I'll add it to the list." She adds it to a list.

"Thank you for your time and the tour."

"You're welcome."

And a few days later, once there is nothing obviously useful for him to be doing, he asks Fëanáro to give him a ride to Space Arda, and he finds their rather jaw-droppingly pretty palace, and he is happily pointed by the first people he asks to whichever Maitimo's currently on duty.

And he walks into the room and why the fuck are they so pretty, like a piece of art in motion, a piece of art in motion giving fast-paced talks on how to manage a science fantasy paradise, and he stands there and blinks at him stupidly, he should have thought of a question to ask if he failed on the spot to work up the nerve for the real one -

"...yes," he says. "Close the door, I'll take a couple days off."
