Eating meat that used to be an animal is actually considered pretty bad in Revelation and Cam doesn't do it anymore - well, it's particularly convenient for him not to - but he doesn't make a fuss about it.

I don't know if that's even the right way to model what Midnight's experiencing, but - if so, it'd be particularly unpleasant and there's no way out of it.

Has anyone non-traumatized from your template even met him?

No. I don't especially want to - he is a terrible person, it's just also possible to model what it'd be like to make contact with a universe of yous who consider you a bad person.

I wouldn't expect it to be recreational, but I wonder if we're missing some insight because the only Maitimos who've met this one can't think straight around the concept.

I can give it a try.

And I'm curious if he has any ideas for what would constitute better conduct from surprised appalled interdimensional visitors.

I'll ask. Is there a list of things to ask anywhere -?

Don't think so.

Sigh.

He goes home. He kisses his boyfriend. He grumbles about how many interesting not-evil-alt uses of time there are. And eventually he skips off to Shadow and works quietly while he waits for Midnight to be free.

"Hi, I wanted to bring you properly up to date on the new worlds, Warp and Telperion and Materia - none of them have an us, in Materia Father died young and Warp doesn't have a Finwean set anywhere and in Telperion it's 1182, I'm a Space fork who's moved over because Boots and T'Mir bit off a hell of a lot and T'Mir's the only person on their planet who'd heard of a computer six months ago and we'll be able to be a lot of use -" and he proceeds to explain.

"This is the part where I want to ask questions but as soon as I do, whoever I'm talking to freezes up and tries to guess What I Want It For, a general love of magic and learning not being sufficiently explanatory, so I've gotten averse to even asking -"

"I don't think there's anything at all you can do to get us to trust you, and if there were, it wouldn't work if we told you what it was."

"Yes, I reached that conclusion also."

"Boots wants to know how you'd like 'jumpers' to behave."

"If there's nothing at all we can do to get them to actually be helpful, then the only axis they can really vary along is 'irritating'. They are successfully getting less irritating."

"We'd like to be helpful, we just can't think of a way to do it that you couldn't leverage to do something awful -"

"I'm not going to do that and I am sincerely lost as to why you think I would. We're within a hop of Edda, I'm not stupid enough to irritate gods who're already just looking for an excuse to kill me and I don't want my people ripped apart and mismanaged by your circus of hypocrites. If I get whatever you're offering Warp the only things I'll do with it is make this world a nicer place to live, and then find the next highest priority and make it nicer."

"Can you think of a way to credibly commit to that?"

"I can swear to it -"

"By all accounts you're really good at loopholes, there."

"Says the one who found an oath satisfactory reason to feed a planet into a black hole."

"I can ask people what they think about designing a satisfactorily binding oath such that it's safe to give you magic and tech. I'm not sure we wouldn't expend more resources trying to manage you than we'd gain from having another standard flat Arda of people, honestly."

"If that's true you are even less competent than I gave you credit for."
