"...To return to your actual question, I think I would need to know a bit more about why you asked it, to provide proper advice.  I hardly know how exactly she's been behaving, though I can make guesses.  If you'd rather that take place at time we have both designated for that matter, rather than occurring impromptu in the hallway, that can be arranged."

"I should get back to master Deskyl soon, yes ma'am."

"I'll let my secretary know to expect you sometime in the next few days, then."

"Yes ma'am. Is there a particular time of day that's likely to be most convenient for you?"

"I do usually keep daylight hours, though there's no particular time I can truthfully guarantee.  Still...  Things haven't been that busy," to need her personal intervention, "lately."  Despite recent events.

"Yes ma'am. I'll most likely have time tomorrow or the following day, then; please feel free to leave me to wait for as long as is convenient for you, I'm also working on reading your library and I can do that while I wait."

She nods.  "I hope you find it sufficiently informative, as closely curated as it must be."

"Yes ma'am, thank you for letting me read it."

"Oh, you needn't, really.  Knowledge does no good if it is kept from those who need to know it."  And no matter the classified things they don't need to know, any immigrant to Villarosa - as these two are - should know the basics.

"Yes ma'am."

"I should be getting back to master Deskyl now, if there's nothing else urgent."

"By all means, don't let me keep you, then.  I should be about my own duties."

"Yes ma'am." And off she goes, to get some more reading done and message Alicia in two hours to let her know that Deskyl is ready for her.

...She'll be right down.  And practically vibrating with excitement.  She's made a lightsaber, she's going to make a lightsaber!  Lightsabers are the coolest swords!  It's indisputable fact!

Deskyl is sitting on the roof when Alicia comes out, with a long black jacket draped over her shoulders in lieu of a cloak that flares out behind her when she jumps down to greet her. "She says your lightsaber looks good, ma'am," DZ translates from where she's waiting by the door.

Eeeeeee!

Oops, words machine broke from being too excited...

She lifts her hand from her throat, utterly surprised to find it thusly nonfunctional.

...Texting device!  Save her!

That's - that's really good news.  Um, can you tell her that she shouldn't look at the crystal too closely yet, it's Light-based.

-- And, um, whoops, I am apparently having enough feelings that my brain cannot muster enough spare...something... for making word noises with my face all of a sudden, I hope that's - not too much of a problem.  ...Didn't know I could do that.  Do that?  Have that happen?  One of the two, I mean, I know it is a thing that does happen, and that it could happen to me, but I've never precisely had it happen to specifically me before...  ...Should come back eventually!
But, um, yeah, I - thank you for being willing to spot me, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing but given what I'm working with I really appreciate the reassurance!  I just need to actually charge and set the enchantments...

"Would it be easier for you for me to write back, ma'am? Master Deskyl prefers signing for a similar reason even when she's not deaf and finds it easier to use the same modality throughout a conversation."

...Maybe!

That's a different kind of surprise/shock/disbelief in her emotional presence.

(Not directed at anything, just...that this scenario is going this way.  Some part of her has never believed it could, it seems.)

...Shit, now I'm having more emotions...  Might need a minute before I can get back to the task at hand, actually.  Not used to...

...I know Great-Aunt Ophelia would respect my preferences and my capabilities, but I don't have a good track record with parents.  Like being smart means I'm somehow incapable of fucking up at basic human endeavour...  Utter nonsense.  I couldn't negotiate employment to save my life.  For a completely hypothetical example.  ...Er, whoops - didn't intend to rant - now's probably not the best time for that line of thought.  Bleah.  Too bitter.  I was all excited about !!making a lightsaber!! a minute ago, where's that gone?

...Well, at least I can put the enchantments on without worrying I'll lose focus because of it!  So I guess I'll get started if we're all ready?

Master Deskyl is ready if you are, though if you'd like to take a minute that's also fine with her. What would you like her to do?

Abort, abort --

...Please don't ask me that question that way; I have enough problems deciding for me.  So I might need that minute, actually.

Yes ma'am.

Master Deskyl says that it's impressive how you've put the lightsaber together without her, but since you used an approach she's not familiar with she's not sure of what still needs to be done; that's why she asks.

Ah.  Yeah.  Tell her --  At this point it's - mostly analogous to putting the wiring in and jumpstarting the system?  It's.  This isn't necessarily a lightsaber exactly replicating her lightsaber, because the thing is, I'm not her, so I have to work around the bits that rely on Force-sensitivity.  And I don't actually know if there's a direct analogue to the state of matter her blade relies upon,  so - it came out more of a lightning blade, except...wait, duh, lightning is basically the same thing...but then...hm.  Well.  Anyway.  There were physics problems; I had to improvise a bit.  But it should still work like one.  For some values thereof.

This gets a fair bit of signing from Deskyl that DZ doesn't translate, and the Sith sits on the stoop to meditate.

"...To be clear," she says, when things have gotten a bit too quiet, "when I say 'bits that rely on Force-sensitivity', I'm mostly talking about - baseline human nervous systems do not have the capacity to just... up and swat blaster bolts out of the air.  We don't move fast enough, generally speaking.  I'm not sure we can.  And in - most of the ways that matter, I'm not different from a non-sensitive in that regard.  I had to build the necessary prescience into the blade.  ...Which is, honestly, why there's crystallized Light at the heart of this thing at all.  If I just wanted - a plasma cutter with pretensions - "

She wouldn't need to have done all the heavy magic, even if it seems the heavy magic leaped to her.

"...But it's just.  Not a lightsaber, if it can't do lightsaber things.  Though what I'm more worried about is whether I might have fucked up the containment field."

...There are hints of danger beneath the surface of her divinations, as Deskyl tries to peer into the future.  But there isn't anything dangerous that's doomed to happen, if Alicia just turns the blade on (and off again, obviously!)

Successfully turning it on (and off again!) without losing a limb or coming close to it is farther than most people would get, even with a 'saber without the tamperproofing hers has, and addresses the bulk of Deskyl's concern; she resurfaces from the meditation rather than worry Alicia further and consults with DZ again.

"She says your design is fine, ma'am, at least in the sense that it's safe to turn on."
