Edie was perusing the latest correspondence from her fork. She still should have been paying enough attention to realize that the door didn't go where it ought before it swung shut and she couldn't sense anyone else anymore, but she wasn't.
After opening and closing the door a couple times to make sure she hadn't just been abducted somehow, she looks around.
(Edie, who has been nonintrusively listening in, breathes a deep sigh of relief.)
He nods. "I should - should check if any of these names were expecting children, that'd be - very hard on someone..."
"It's marked," murmurs Cam. "Asterisks. So I don't just naively make them with a mindless fetus."
"We were prepared to blow up the Earth. Sitting here for a few centuries coming up with - not that - is lovely but doesn't change having been prepared to do that - but once I've fixed all this I am definitely finding my version in your universe a therapist."
More names. Tyelcormo comes up after an hour and raises an eyebrow and he sighs and hugs him. "No, you haven't added anybody to look after, I'll be fine."
"I will remember to eat and drink and socialize and acquire the things I need to be productive and pleasant company."
"Love you too, Maitimo. Oh, I meant to ask - would you hook up with a fork of yourself -"
"Apparently on the other Arda it's horribly offensive to ask, because the Valar are homophobes."
"Yeah, really. I managed not to notice for a surprisingly long time. And then for a while my principal Valinor-related concern was that there might be someone who had gotten through a few seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then been forbidden to watch the rest of it."
"Is Buffy the Vampire Slayer something we ought to be acquainted with?"
"It's not the finest example of human media, but it's quippy and a salient example of a show in which a character is presented as heterosexual for a while and then gay after that because it was released during a shift in relevant norms."
"My alt must have such a complex. Not that that belongs anywhere on our list of priorities -"
"My Arda is actually not mid-catastrophe, I can lean out the door and send a drone to send him a message if there's a compelling reason."

"I would hope not. It's not a line of conversation I'd be entertaining if time weren't stopped."
